These five MCU projects are the perfect next project for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Wonder Man after his Disney+ series. Marvel Television has been sitting on Wonder Man for almost two years since production wrapped in early 2024, leaving it unclear whether fans would ever meet Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Simon Williams.
Well, thank goodness they did, as Wonder Man has become one of the MCU's best-received Disney+ series ever despite its more standalone nature, and fans are hankering for more. While Marvel Studios has stayed quiet on the character's future for the time being, the MCU has five upcoming projects perfect for him...
Here's Where Wonder Man Should Appear Next After His Disney+ Series
Wonder Man Season 2
Daniel Richtman recently reported that, after Wonder Man debuted on Disney+ to glowing reactions, Marvel Television is close to green lighting Season 2. If Marvel Studios got development running promptly, more Wonder Man could arrive in 2027, joining the MCU's annual release calendar alongside Daredevil: Born Again.
There's no denying that a sophomore outing for his own Disney+ series is the most likely location for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Simon Williams to appear next. After all, he currently has no real links into the wider MCU and isn't even a true superhero himself, but that could all change in a second season.
While Marvel Studios ought to maintain the Hollywood satire comedy that made Wonder Man so special, Season 2 could introduce more traditionally MCU elements, including a big bad who may have been hiding in plain sight.
Avengers: Secret Wars
Sadly, Simon Williams probably won't make the cut for Avengers: Doomsday later this year, as plans for Wonder Man's future seemed vague before his Disney+ debut. That said, Avengers: Secret Wars won't begin filming until this spring for its December 2027 release, leaving some wiggle room to include him.
In 2015's Secret Wars, Doctor Doom, played in the MCU by Robert Downey Jr., the all-powerful villain rules over Battleworld, a patchwork reality crafted in his own image from the remnants of the Multiverse. There, very few remember the world that came before, and Simon Williams could slot into that chaos.
Perhaps Williams and his Hollywood buddy Trevor Slattery could appear, even in a cameo capacity, as actors forced to perform for God Emperor Doom. This could set the stage for them to interact with other heroes and for Williams to get involved in the action, using his powers in the later battles.
VisionQuest
Wonder Man and Vision are deeply linked in Marvel Comics, as it was Williams' brain patterns that were used to create the synthezoid's human-like personality, not to mention they are both prominent members of the West Coast Avengers.
As Vision looks to regain his humanity in this year's WandaVision sequel, which hits Disney+ this fall, an appearance from the in-universe superstar could pay homage to that comic history, even if it is unlikely to be adapted directly.
Alongside Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Paul Bettany's Vision and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Wonder Man are this year's biggest live-action series stars on Disney+. As Marvel Television's offerings recently appear rather disconnected from big screen event, bringing them together in some way could give a greater sense of cohesion.
While VisionQuest may have room for Wonder Man, hopes for one much-anticipated MCU cameo was recently shut down after leaked concept art left some fans convinced that Chris Pratt's Star-Lord might show up.
Shang-Chi 2
At first glance, Shang-Chi 2 has no clear place for Wonder Man to appear, but the two projects do share some minor and behind the scenes connections. Notably, both were crafted by Destin Daniel Cretton, who will also helm Spider-Man: Brand New Day but may wish to bring his two lesser-known MCU heroes together.
Simu Liu's Shang-Chi and Abdul-Mateen II's Williams already share a mutual friend in Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery, who appeared in both their solo projects, making an easy path to bring them together.
In the same way that VisionQuest has room for Wonder Man due to the West Coast Avengers, Shang-Chi lives in San Fransisco and Williams in Los Angeles, placing them on the same side of the states for a team-up.
X-Men
Interestingly, Simon Williams' origins went unexplored in his Disney+ debut, with the MCU making an unusual decision to mask where he got his powers. That said, many were quick to speculate on his backstory and one Marvel Studios producer even confirmed that the Wonder Man team almost made him a mutant.
Traditionally, Williams has no mutant origins, and actually got his powers thanks to scientific experimentation from Baron Zemo, hoping to use him as a weapon against the Avengers. But as that storyline would make minimal sense in the context of the MCU, it's easy to see him becoming a mutant instead.
Marvel Studios could push Wonder Man's new origin to the forefront in Phase 7 and beyond in, what is rumored to be, the Mutant Saga. Williams may be too old for Charles Xavier's School of Gifted Youngsters, but there's no reason he couldn't have a minor appearance to showcase the wider mutant community.
