Loki is set to explore a different side of the God of Mischief, but with a game-changing twist. The upcoming Disney+ series will follow the adventures of an alternate version of Tom Hiddleston's Marvel character that was introduced during the Time Heist from 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
That version of Loki escaped from the Avengers using the Tesseract, but trailers for the series proved that his freedom will be cut short by the Time Variance Authority. This organization will be introduced in Loki as the MCU's timekeepers, led by Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Judge Renslayer and Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius.
Loki head writer Michael Waldron said that the TVA is involved “to hold up a mirror to Loki and make him really confront who he is,” seemingly confirming that the organization will play a pivotal part in the character's evolution. This will be achieved through Loki's participation in numerous missions to fix the timeline that he broke in the first place.
Now, a brief glimpse at one of those expeditions has been revealed in a latest sizzle reel.
A FRESH LOOK AT TOM HIDDLESTON'S LOKI
The official Disney+ Hotstar Premium Twitter account posted a new teaser showcasing the streaming platform's Marvel shows, which includes WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki.
The video includes a fresh look at the Tom Hiddleston-led series, showing off the God of Mischief wielding a sword ablaze with fire while screaming, “Come and get me” to an unknown opponent.
The full Disney+ reel can be viewed below.
LOKI'S TIMELINE-SAVING MISSION
It is already confirmed that Loki will be involved in dangerous missions for the TVA, and this new piece of footage provides a solid look at an intense moment taken from the team's operations.
The scene might be brief, but it still managed to showcase the science fiction elements that Loki will embrace in the narrative. The flaming sword could be a product of one of the worlds or branched timelines that the TVA will visit.
Not much is known as to why Loki will wield the sword in the first place, but it's possible that he decides to take it after it was revealed in a recent promo spot that the TVA didn't give him any weapons during his first mission. The identity of the mysterious opponent remains to be seen, but it's likely that it will be a massive creature due to Loki's position in the footage.
Calling out the enemy and protecting his comrades in battle could be his way of gaining the trust of the timekeepers. Hopefully, this will lead to smoother time-bending missions moving forward.
The first episode of Loki is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 9, 2021.
