After the internet-stopping reveals during Disney Investor Day last December 10, it was made clear that the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is bright. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige brought a stockpile of good news during the aforementioned virtual event, officially announcing at least 5 new projects to boost the excitement of fans.

Of course, this is on top of the already-confirmed projects like Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, and the soon to premiere Disney+ series, WandaVision. Due to the exciting announcements, it has already inspired discussion amongst fans on which next big Hollywood star will join the monumental franchise.

Actors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have long been the fan-favorite to portray Reed Richards and Sue Storm respectively, and this potential casting was further boosted due to their recently-revealed gambling odds from Las Vegas. On top of that, other A-listers like Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone have also thrown their hat into the ring to announce their desire to join the MCU.

And now, a new rumor may have revealed that another big-time actor could be involved with the future plans of Marvel Studios.

RUMOR

Insider Charles Murphy of Murphy's Multiverse shared that Joseph Gordon-Levitt “had recently been in contact” with at least one of the creatives from Marvel Studios.

No other context was given by Murphy, but he did point out that this doesn't necessarily mean that he will be cast in an MCU role due to the actor's vast experience behind-the-scenes like writing and directing.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Adding Joseph Gordon-Levitt to an already-stacked MCU ensemble should be a massive win for the franchise. Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to the superhero genre since the actor played a prominent role in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises as Gotham PD's John “Robin” Blake. If the actor gets to join the next slate of films in an acting capacity, it would be a fitting return nonetheless.

Given the vast amount of MCU projects on the horizon, there are a plethora of roles for Gordon-Levitt to play. The actor could end up playing Reed Richards in Marvel's Fantastic Four film led by director Jon Watts, or he could even join Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder in an unknown role to possibly reunite with Dark Knight alum Christian Bale.

On the flip side, there's also a strong chance that Gordon-Levitt will portray one of the chief villains of future projects like Captain Marvel 2, Moon Knight, and even Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The latter of which could be an intriguing film for Gordon-Levitt to be involved with, since he could potentially play the MCU's version of Adam Warlock.

All in all, if the rumor is true, Gordon-Levitt should be an exciting addition to the MCU roster, and it will be interesting to find out the role that the actor will play in the interconnected storytelling of the franchise.
