Production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been progressing for a while now, with director James Gunn sharing notable tidbits on social media. The upcoming threequel is set to bring back original cast members, such as Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Karen Gillan. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the emotional reactions of some of the cast members toward the script suggest that it will be an emotional adventure.
Given that Chris Pratt's Peter Quill is the team's leader, the MCU hero is expected to have a large role once again. Aside from that, Star-Lord will also sport a new bearded look.
Now, it looks like Quill and the rest of the team will also wear a familiar costume straight from the comics.

Aside from a bunch of extras in alien headgear, the photos show Pratt chatting on the phone, presumably during a break in filming last Monday (May 2) in Atlanta, Georgia. Meanwhile, Karen Gillan's Nebula is also sporting a new costume, potentially hinting that this will be the uniform of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the threequel:

This costume design is ripped straight from the comics. The characters wore this design during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1: Legacy by Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett:
Guardians' New Costume (Explained)
It remains to be seen why the team will decide to suddenly wear a new costume in the threequel, but there could be several reasons as to why Peter Quill potentially mandated such a change.
Given that Vol. 3 is set to explore the team's search for the alternate version of Gamora across the galaxy, it's possible that these new costumes will be used for a covert operation that could be related to their mission to find their former team member.
These new costumes could also indicate a deeper meaning. In Marvel Comics, the Guardians wore these costumes to try and become a bit more official.
The same could be true for the live-action iteration of the team, especially after how they helped the Avengers defeat Thanos during Endgame. The Guardians could be the official police force of the galaxy in Phase 4, considering that the Nova Corps was seemingly destroyed by Thanos.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
