Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2007, but development for the film has had its fair share of ups and downs over the years.
The DCEU anti-hero was supposed to become part of David F. Sandberg's Shazam! as well as a villain to Task Force X in an early version of The Suicide Squad at one point, but plans eventually shifted into a solo film.
During DC FanDome 2020, plans for the character became clear, with Johnson leading the charge to reveal the first look at Black Adam. While the pandemic has caused several delays for the film, this didn't stop the consistent wave of news about the DCEU project, ranging from casting announcements all the way to major teases from Johnson and the rest of the cast and crew.
Plot details of Black Adam are still shrouded in secrecy, but it was already confirmed that it will feature the live-action version of the Justice Society of America. The JSA heroes will be portrayed by Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), Pierce Brosnan (Dr. Fate), and Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone).
Now, a special look at the titular Kahndaaq warrior has been revealed during DC FanDome 2021.
Dwayne Johnson Unveils Black Adam Secrets
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson officially revealed a fresh look at Black Adam during DC FanDome 2021, showcasing the opening scene of the DCEU film.
The clip opens up with several explorers searching for Teth Adam's secret tomb. Upon finding it, one of them says "Shazam," thus unleashing Black Adam into the world.
As a result of his escape, Black Adam doesn't waste time showing his wrath against the explorers.
The clip ends with Black Adam choking the life of one of the explorers before disintegrating him with his powerful lightning.

Black Adam Unleashes His Wrath in New Clip
Even though it is brief, the first official Black Adam clip managed to show the ruthless nature of the DCEU anti-hero. In addition, it also showcases the first full look at Dwayne Johnson's costume for the film.
It is unknown if Black Adam will join forces with the Justice Society of America in the film, but it's reasonable to assume that they would likely duke it out against the Khandaaq prince at some point. Based on the clip, it seems that the JSA will have its hands full when going up against the titular anti-hero during the film.
Black Adam is a character best known as the arch-enemy of Shazam, but DC Comics has since explored his heroic side. It remains to be seen, though, if this will be tackled in his solo film, but this clip could hint that it would likely revolve around his villainous path.
It makes narrative sense if Black Adam decides to go on with this trajectory, since it has the potential to fully showcase his heroic turn in the end. However, given that a potential showdown between him and Zachary Levi's Shazam and the Shazam family is imminent, it's possible that the film will end with Black Adam defeating the JSA to fully unveil his dangerous might.
Black Adam is set to premiere in theaters on July 29, 2022.
