While the DC Extended Universe is working toward its next slate of releases, coming back with The Suicide Squad in August, the franchise’s heroes are currently in the news for other interesting reasons. This is largely thanks to the Caped Crusader and his recent run in the NSFW realm of comic book news.
A report came to light that DC allegedly removed a scene with oral sex between Batman and Catwoman in the Harley Quinn series, which is known for featuring more adult content than other comic book projects. This caused quite the stir among the fandom, especially considering how much the idea of sex in public discussions has changed culturally in this era.
In light of this news, one of DC's most prominent movie figures has shared his thoughts on the matter.
SNYDER HOPS ON THE BAT-TRAIN
Director Zack Snyder took to Vero to share a graphic comic image of Batman and Catwoman engaging in sexual relations. This likely came in response to the recent news that the Harley Quinn TV show was set to include a scene featuring oral sex between the pair, which was reportedly blocked by DC.
Snyder included the simple caption "Canon" with the image.
BATMAN'S ONLY HUMAN, AFTER ALL
Zack Snyder is clearly one of the pre-eminent faces of the DCEU, especially after the March release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. That being said, this is quite the image even coming from someone as supportive of DC’s material as Snyder.
The DCEU has only seen one R-rated film thus far in 2020’s Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, although The Suicide Squad will double that number when it arrives this summer. That may not necessarily mean any of this particular adult material will be coming, but perhaps it shouldn’t be counted out.
In the end, Snyder’s support of this news simply reconfirms how passionate he is for DC’s material, especially pertaining to its relation to real-life instances like this. It will undoubtedly be a topic that lingers in discussions for some time, and it will be interesting to see if any other big names voice their opinions on the matter as well.
Zack Snyder's Justice League is available to stream on HBO Max.
