Avengers: Endgame's Frank Grillo Details His Desire for a Crossbones TV Show

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with so many exciting and diverse characters that even through 23 films released and over a dozen more projects on the way , quite a few of them will unfortunately get the short end of the stick in terms of screen time. The pages of Marvel Comics are filled with these types of heroes and villains, and the movies have the luxury of picking and choosing which ones to include.

Some of the characters that end up falling short in terms of screen time and notoriety have been mostly villains up to this point, which does make some sense considering how many heroes each film has to feature as more and more team-ups take place on screen. One of the most notable of these villains recently opened up about his experience with Marvel Studios, along with how eager he would be to return to the franchise.

NEWS

In a recent interview with Forbes , Crossbones actor Frank Grillo detailed his burning desire to reprise the role once again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After appearing as Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier , Captain America: Civil War , and even a brief scene in Avengers: Endgame, he gave these quotes on a potential return in a television series that focused on his villain:

I would love to do [a Crossbones show] just because I have never seen a character be on the screen so little and yet have such a fan following... I scratch my head with it sometimes. I have a great relationship with Marvel and the guys there, but why didn’t they, even if it wasn’t with me, pursue that? Why isn’t Crossbones somewhere in the mix? I think Crossbones was on screen for something like eight or 12 minutes, and you would think that this character was in 75 different movies the way every day people come up to me all day and talk about Crossbones. I’m taking pictures as if I was Captain America. So, I would do it in a heartbeat. I would love for a meeting to help them develop it. That would be great. It’s a great character, but if it does happen, that will probably happen with somebody half my age.

WHAT THIS MEANS

2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier saw Frank Grillo break out in the role of Brock Rumlow / Crossbones, captivating audiences all over the world as his character played such a big part in the downfall of S.H.I.E.L.D. He returned to cause some havoc in Lagos, Nigeria in the very beginning of 2016's Captain America: Civil War , although he was quickly killed off by Wanda Maximoff after trying to suicide bomb the city. He also made a quick cameo as the 2012 version of his character during Avengers: Endgame when audiences saw a near-repeat version of The Winter Soldier's elevator scene, this time in Stark Tower.

Grillo made himself a fan favorite of the MCU despite not having a whole lot of screen time in both of his movies, and even after his on-screen death, the cries for his return to the franchise have been loud and strong for the last six years. The biggest obstacle for his return would obviously be the fact that his character was blown into a million pieces, there are still a number of potential avenues to explore his character more deeply.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision are both set to premiere on Disney+ hopefully by the end of 2020, and either one of those shows along with multiple other projects could be an opening for Grillo to make his return. There are no definite plans for Crossbones to come back although Grillo's contract does include five more future projects , but he is certainly a character that the fans would welcome back with open arms.
