The DC Extended Universe has plenty of new additions coming in the next couple of years from Peacemaker on HBO Max to Black Adam and The Flash in theaters. However, even with so much new material and seemingly big changes coming to the core roster of heroes, not much has been said about the upcoming third Wonder Woman movie with Gal Gadot.
Gadot was last seen as the Amazonian princess in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 and Zack Snyder's Justice League, and next, she's set to play a small supporting role in 2022's The Flash alongside Ezra Miller. This all comes before her third solo movie playing Diana Prince, which was confirmed to be in development shortly after 1984 debuted on HBO Max in December 2020.
While Gadot and the team at Warner Bros. have teased new plot points coming in this threequel, there are no signs pointing to when production will start or when the film will eventually debut in theaters. Thankfully, that changes to a degree after a recent interview with the woman behind the wonders of this franchise.
Gal Gadot Gives Wonder Woman 3 Update
During an interview with In Style Magazine, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot shared an update on the timeline of her upcoming Wonder Woman 3.
The actress confirmed that the movie is early in the development process and that she and the team are aiming to start production in the middle of 2023.
"We're developing the script right now. We'll probably start in a year and a half or so."
Still Some Time Before Wonder Woman 3 Shoots
This year alone, Warner Bros is bringing four blockbuster movies and the Peacemaker streaming series to the DCEU, which doesn't include 2023's Shazam!: Fury of the Gods or multiple other HBO Max series. With all this material coming so soon, it makes some sense that Gal Gadot's third solo movie is still about eighteen months from starting up production.
Currently, there aren't many details confirmed for Wonder Woman 3 other than Gadot's reprisal of Diana Prince, Patty Jenkins' comeback as the film's director, and an expanded role for original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter. Jenkins has also teased a more present-day setting for the new adventure, which will catch fans up on Diana's new mission post-Justice League.
With filming not starting until mid-2023, fans shouldn't expect the movie to release theatrically until sometime in 2024, possibly even 2025. Regardless, knowing that the threequel now has a production timeline should bring another round of excitement for one of the DCEU's most successful stories.
Wonder Woman 3 is in the early stages of development and should begin shooting in Spring or Summer 2023.
