Warning: This article contains spoilers for WandaVision "Episode 9."
Aside from furthering the titular heroes' personal stories, WandaVision set a number of supporting characters on their own unique paths.
While fan-favorites Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo's futures remain uncertain, Teyonah Parris's Monica Rambeau looks to have a clear trajectory moving forward.
RALPH HINTS AT MONICA'S POWERS
As Monica comes to grips with her new powers, Marvel seems intent on dropping clues along the way.
WandaVision's finale saw Monica share scenes with Evan Peters' fake Pietro (later revealed to be Ralph Bohner). In their first encounter in Ralph's man-cave, he strums a few notes of the song "Amber" by 311.
That song's chorus stars with the lyric "Amber is the color of your energy," a clever foreshadow to Monica's hue of power later in the episode.
When SWORD Director Tyler Hayward attempts to shoot Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Monica hurls herself in front of the twins, taking the bullets to her chest.
Rather than piercing her skin, the bullets phase through Monica's abdomen and drop to the ground, leaving her unharmed.
Along with where the bullets pass through, Monica's eyes glow a shade of amber, as prophesied by Ralph's earlier tune.
The full song can be heard below:
A PHOTONIC PROPHECY
WandaVision may be over, but Monica's story is just getting started.
Lieutenant Trouble had her genetic makeup re-written by the Hex, leading her to take on some somewhat expected powers. Monica first flexes her new abilities in WandaVision's seventh episode, nailing a superhero landing like all great enhanced individuals. Considering how comfortable she appeared with her new powers, many have suspected that Rambeau could have known about her hidden abilities before they were fully unlocked by the Westview border.
In the comics, Rambeau takes on two different superhero aliases: Photon and Spectrum.
The former rocks a blue and white attire, which was hinted at in the aforementioned seventh episode. Then, Monica's eyes glowed blue as she dodges an attack from Wanda, leading fans to believe she would indeed be taking on the Photon alias. Throughout the final stretch of episodes, Rambeau also dons a navy and baby blue SWORD get-up, further emphasizing this Photonic possibility.
As hinted at by Ralph, the finale saw Rambeau's energy take on an amber form, the same shade Spectrum sports on the page. Even before fake Pietro strummed the prophetic lyric, the Spectrum alias was alluded to during the fourth episode. Within SWORD's facility, a broadcast of Spectrum News can be seen on a television monitor above Monica.
Marvel Studios has made clear hints towards both of Monica's comic aliases in WandaVision, but it remains to be seen which made-up name she'll take on in the MCU.
Teyonah Parris will return as Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel 2, scheduled for November 11, 2022.
