Thor: Love and Thunder will mark a major milestone in Marvel history as the God of Thunder becomes the first Avenger to lead a fourth solo outing. Continuing on from Taika Waititi's Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth's Avenger will be joined by plenty of old friends including Jane Foster, Korg, Miek, Sif, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Valkyrie.
Across her two MCU appearances, Odin's legendary warrior Valkyrie has gone from the Grandmaster's top scrapper on Sakaar to the latest ruler of New Asgard as Thor departed Earth with the Guardians.
As of now, it remains unclear how Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie will tie into Love and Thunder, but recently-released details of her new powers offer some hints.
Valkyrie's Has New Powers in Thor 4
During a recent interview with W Magazine, Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson teased her weird new superpowers in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thompson revealed several new abilities when asked to describe her Asgardian hero's powers, saying she can "sense when someone is close to death" and takes them to the Norse afterlife Valhalla. Valkyrie can also now "revive people" but "sometimes she ends up in their body:"
"She has weird skills, to be honest. She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It's a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God."
How Will Valkyrie Play Into Thor 4?
Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie was one of the most popular new characters to come out of Thor: Ragnarok, as she went from being a scrapper of Sakaar to playing a critical role in the evacuation of Asgard. Since then, the Asgardian hero appeared in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame before going on to take the throne of New Asgard.
Moving into Love and Thunder, Valkyrie is poised to play a much larger role as she rules over New Asgard, with Thor off-world traveling the galaxy with the Guardians. It's unclear how these new powers will play into the plot, but chances are her reviving powers will be integral to resurrecting a key character.
Set photos have shown the Asgardian queen riding her iconic flying horse in a suit, perhaps suggesting she may be in for a diplomatic mission of sorts. Meanwhile, new art has also showcased a new battle-ready outfit for Valkyrie, indicating that her new role won't stop her from getting in on the fight against Gorr the God Butcher.
Recent rumors have indicated Valkyrie will soon return after Love and Thunder, as evidence suggests that she will appear in the Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels in some capacity.
Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022.
