John Cena's Peacemaker has his own HBO Max prequel spin-off series in the works with a potential second season on the table. But before that, Peacemaker will be fighting alongside other villains in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Currently clocked at 132 minutes in total, The Suicide Squad will see "almost all" of the characters dying by the film's end.
Whether it's at the hands of each other, insurgents, the authorities, or a giant alien starfish named Starro, it'll certainly be a nail-biter for fans of any of these characters.
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much merchandise thus far for the film, except for small things like calendars, but a new figurine set for some of the most important characters has been revealed with one detail in particular that's puzzling fans...
PEACEMAKER'S SWORD IS MIGHTIER THAN AN EMPTY GUN
The first photo of an upcoming seven-inch scale figure set based on The Suicide Squad has been revealed, showing Peacemaker, Bloodsport, King Shark, Harley Quinn, and Polka-Dot Man.
The most interesting part of this new set is Peacemaker using a sword instead of his typical long-barreled pistol.
Director James Gunn actually promoted the figures on his Twitter account and answered questions from fans, reassuring them that, yes, Peacemaker would be using a sword in the film.
Other fans began asking questions about survivors and whether this set reflects who will live and die. One assumed that these figures showed who lives to the climax, with Gunn responding in the negative. Another attempted to guess who will survive by the end of the film: Harley Quinn, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, and Polka-Dot Man, but Gunn also shot it down.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD STILL (BARELY) STANDING
It isn't definitive whether this figurine set replicates any scene from The Suicide Squad, especially with some of Gunn's responses to fans. Still, it's a bit concerning that both Peacemaker and Bloodshot have opted for melee weapons instead of their preferred firearms, potentially showing that both of them had exhausted their ammunition at this point.
As for Peacemaker's new sword, fans question where he'll actually get it in the film. However, it isn't the first time fans have seen it, as he was briefly seen swinging it around behind-the-scene footage shown at DC FanDome. Fans could even see him using it on an unfortunate soldier, presumably, in the same place this figurine set takes place.
It certainly doesn't look very modern, and it has some sort of bird on the hilt. So, Peacemaker may have taken this sword from the Nazi-era prison that the Squad will visit. Whether it's a Nazi sword or an artifact stolen by the Nazis will be answered when The Suicide Squad releases in theaters on August 6, 2021.
