Progress on pre-production for Thor: Love and Thunder was up in the air following the announcement that the film was to be delayed to February 11, 2022. After a big blowout of information related to the film earlier this year, new details have been relatively scarce as of late.
The film's writer and director Taika Waititi assured , however, that lockdown had provided ample time to work on the script and that he had been using "as much of that time as possible to get [the] story right." Chris Hemsworth also noted that the script is "one of the best scripts [he's] read in years."
While the contents of the film are still relatively unknown, Tessa Thompson, who portrays Valkyrie, noted that Phase 4 would make a greater effort for diversity and representation in its lineup.

In an interview with BBC News , via a Reddit post from u/gamesburger, Taika Waititi confirmed that he has finished a version of the script for Thor: Love and Thunder:
"I think it's going to be really good. We've finished , we've been writing the script off and on for over a year and I'm just, actually this week, doing another pass on it . It is so insane and it's also very romantic. I'm into romances now. I just want to make a romance. I just want to make something that I've never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that."
WHAT THIS MEANS
Waititi's wording could be interpreted in a few ways, with him noting that he has finished, yet is still doing another pass on the script this past week. This, at the very least, indicates that a new version of the Thor: Love and Thunder script has been completed. It could also suggest that the script is potentially near completion, due to Waititi having worked on it for so long up to this point.
Waititi noting that the film would be "very romantic" indicates that Thor: Love and Thunder will deviate heavily from the director's typical wheelhouse. The closest that Waititi has come to making a romance flick is the indie film Eagle vs. Shark, which follows a strange relationship between two individuals.
Whilst Waititi may draw some inspiration from working on this film, it is safe to say that Thor: Love and Thunder will be a much different experience to the rest of his filmography. This seems to be a common trend for the director, who has combined comedy with various other genres including horror, adventure, and historical films.
Taika Waititi's script will be sure to live up to expectations of being "insane" when Thor: Love and Thunder releases February 11, 2022.
