The hype for the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer was massive—it was all anyone could talk about for months. When it did finally drop, it shattered records; people were excited.
After the trailer, theories started pouring in from everywhere. How was Alfred Molina's Doc Ock back? Why is Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange's Sanctum filled with snow? Will Peter actually succeed in wiping his identity from the public consciousness?
It was endless. But there was one small mystery that slipped by: who exactly is Peter Parker next to when things start going down on the bridge?
Spider-Man: No Way Home Theory Revealed
The scene depicted above from the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has been one of many conversations. What is Peter doing on that bridge? And where does it all line up in terms of Doc Ock's arrival? More importantly, who is that sitting in the car next to Peter?
Well, thanks to Reddit user u/Apprehensive-Ad-7600, a good educated guess may have the answer everyone is looking for.
The user stated that "this has to be Detective Terri Lee." But why do they feel so strongly about it? Well, "[they] came to this conclusion after watching... the Spiderman Animated Series from the 90s."
Above is the character in question: Detective Terri Lee, a police officer whose character is credited as being played by Dawnn Lewis on IMDB.
There's no doubt that the two have similar appearances. Both of their purple suits and earrings bear an uncanny similarity.
Even more than that, in the 1994 Spider-Man animated series, the character comes into play when Mysterio frames Spider-Man. Eventually, things get cleared up, and both Spider-Man and her team up to clear Parker's name.
With Lee being a police officer, and Peter being in formal attire, could the two of them have just come from one of his hearings? Or some other legal meeting? Seems pretty plausible.
Is That Who Peter Was With?
The Redditor's theory is sound, and it would all certainly match up with the situation that Peter Parker has found himself in; this isn't to say this makes it a fact—it simply lines up pretty well.
It would make perfect sense, however, as the actress also seemingly hinted she was playing Zendaya's MJ's mother in the film, something that would go against the idea of her character being Detective Terri Lee.
Maybe that scene with Peter Parker and MJ on the roof is at her place, where Peter has been getting some alone time when he can. After all, his former residence probably isn't the most under-the-radar place in the world.
Fans will have to wait and see which ends up being the case when No Way Home hits theaters on December 17, 2021.
