Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are in the final days of preparation for the worldwide mega-event that is Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU's 27th theatrical release since 2008. By taking the story built in the MCU and adding elements from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-verses into the adventure, it's making for one of the biggest solo crossover movies ever made.
Over the last few weeks, fans have gotten to hear from many of the movie's high-profile cast members about what's coming in the MCU's Spider-Man threequel, an endeavor that features Electro star Jamie Foxx and Dr. Octopus actor Alfred Molina leading the way.
These two stars have been exceptionally vocal about their returns from Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with each new quote bringing new levels of excitement. During CCXP 2021, both of them teamed up with Green Goblin actor Willem Dafoe to help tease how their villains will make their presence felt for Tom Holland's web-slinger.
Fans have heard from many No Way Home actors and crew members, but one that's remained silent on the matter is Dr. Curt Connors actor Rhys Ifans from 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. Although that changes thanks to a recent interview, it appears that nothing's coming from Ifans about what fans will see in the near future.
Lizard Star Plays Coy on No Way Home
In an interview with Murphy's Multiverse, The Amazing Spider-Man star Rhys Ifans spoke on his reprisal of the role in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: No Way Home.
When asked if he is the man behind the Lizard in this new movie, Ifans refused to confirm anything on the matter, comparing it to knowing what's in Christmas presents before opening them:
"Well you know, like most Christmas presents, the good thing is not knowing what’s in them until it’s time to open them..."
To Spoil or Not to Spoil Spider-Man: No Way Home?
While Foxx, Dafoe, and Molina have led the way in terms of interviews and promotional material with their villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Rhys Ifans has largely remained in the shadows on the matter of his return.
The movie's second full trailer confirmed that the Lizard will make a terrifying return from The Amazing Spider-Man, which was particularly exciting after fans thought he was teased in the first trailer from August. He's even had some hilarious moments in the promo tour thanks to being punched out by an unknown force and being referred to as a "dinosaur" by J. Jonah Jameson.
Even though the Lizard is confirmed to play a role in this movie, the trailers haven't shown Ifans' face for a moment. While this casting should most likely be confirmed when the movie releases, Ifans won't be the one to reveal another of the film's secrets on top of what's already come to light.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters on December 17, 2021.
