Although the Coronavirus has halted nearly all current film productions and theatrical releases, every major studio is still actively preparing their plans for the future. This especially applies to Marvel Studios, which is already fully invested in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in preparation for its upcoming debut at the end of 2020. While delays have hit Marvel as hard as any other studio, there are still a number of movies to make, and actors with stories to tell in those movies. One of these actors recently took to social media to answer some fan questions, one in particular pertaining to his future in the MCU.

NEWS

During a recent AMA on Reddit, Michael Mando from Spider-Man: Homecoming answered a few fan questions, one asking if he will be appearing in Marvel and Sony's upcoming untitled Spider-Man 3. The actor behind Mac Gargan was expectedly tight-lipped with his response:

I love Spiderman and I love that whole team :) Who knows, I keep hearing things but I can't confirm or deny anything... yet. Stay tuned xoxox

WHAT THIS MEANS

Michael Mando's Mac Gargan has been one of the most highly discussed characters in the MCU Spider-Man series since he first debuted on screen in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. Even though he only had less than 90 seconds of screentime in his first MCU outing, his appearance in the mid-credits scene was one of the most exciting teases the film had to offer. His discussion with Michael Keaton's Vulture about going after the web-slinger laid the groundwork for a potential team-up between the two villains, and fans also are hopeful that it leads to the first live-action Sinister Six in the upcoming movie.

Mando also recently spoke in another interview of his interest in doing some kind of Scorpion standalone movie, which wouldn't seem to be out of the question for Sony Pictures. 2018's Tom Hardy-led Venom was an unexpected box office hit, and there is also a good deal of hype surrounding the new villain-centric Morbius, featruing Jared Leto and set to release on March 19, 2021. Sony is putting in a lot of work to build their Sony Universe of Spider-Man Characters (SMUC), and it wouldn't be a shock to see the studio tackle Mac Gargan in a feature film down the road.

The MCU's untitled Spider-Man 3 is still set to release in theatres on July 16, 2021, yet the Coronavirus has put that filming start date into jeopardy. There are also no definitive plans for Michael Mando to return as Mac Gargan/Scorpion.
