Due to Matt Reeves' The Batman and the return of both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck's Batmen in The Flash, 2022 appears to be the year of the Bat. Still, that's not all. Warner Bros. is also shooting a Batgirl film for HBO Max starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon; and while a release date has yet to be confirmed, 2022 isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Unlike The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, Batgirl takes place within the DCEU; and even though this is Barbara Gordon's solo film, she won't be alone. In addition to his role in The Flash, Batman Returns' Michael Keaton is also set to appear.

Fans recently saw glimpses of Keaton's Caped Crusader cameo from Batgirl's Glasgow shoot; and now, a new batch of photos have offered a better look at the classic Bat's suit and possibly one of the film's key scenes.

Twitter user @BatgirlFilm shared leaked photos from Batgirl's Glasgow set highlighting Michael Keaton's Batman, his upgraded Batsuit, and the vigilante's interactions with Justice League's Commissioner Gordon, played by J.K. Simmons

Whether Keaton or his stunt double is the one in the suit in these shots is unclear.

While some images of Keaton's classic suit have been revealed in recent months, these images are some of the best fans have seen yet.

Also, due to Commissioner Gordon's hair and younger appearance in these shots, this scene is likely a flashback sequence and evidence of how Ben Affleck's Batman history could be erased due to events from The Flash.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship

While The Flash offers a number of interesting storytelling prospects, the return of '90s Batman, courtesy of Michael Keaton, is one of the film's biggest draws. Fortunately, these leaked photos confirm that the nostalgia train doesn't stop with Ezra Miller's film but continues on into Batgirl.

In terms of the film's story, this flashback sequence also appears to be key to Batgirl's origin story and her connection to Keaton as her potential mentor, since Barbara Gordon is Commissioner Gordon's daughter. It's also likely integral to the relationship between DCEU's Jim Gordon and Michael Keaton's Batman as well.

Interestingly enough, this isn't the first superhero franchise that J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton have been part of. In fact, both actors played roles in Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man trilogy with J.K. Simmons somewhat reprising his role as The Daily Bugle's J. Jonah Jameson in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home and then in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Meanwhile, Keaton played the web-slinger's primary antagonist, the Vulture, in Spider-Man: Homecoming and appears to be reprising that role in Sony's upcoming film, Morbius, in some form or fashion.

Batgirl is expected to release exclusively on HBO Max in late 2022.
