A brand-new trailer for the latest Disney+ show of the year, Hawkeye, dropped, and with it came a bunch of new glimpses into what fans can expect when the series streams later this year on Disney+.
The show stars Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop as the two team up to take down the bad guys. The overall storyline is still rather unknown, but at the very least, fans know that Kate Bishop takes on the Ronin identity, and in doing so attracts Clint's attention—leading to their inevitable meet-up.
There's another huge character that shows up in the trailer but only for the briefest of moments: Alaqua Cox's Echo. While the character hasn't yet debuted, there is already a Disney+ spinoff for her deaf superhero in the works.
Well, the small bit of Echo that fans get in the trailer also has a connection to another famous Marvel superhero: none other than Daredevil himself.
An Echo of Daredevil?
The new trailer for Hawkeye unveiled an eerie first look at Alaqua Cox's Echo which, according to some Marvel fans on social media, could have a visual tie to Daredevil.
In the Netflix show Daredevil, the blind vigilante had several shots of him blasted with red light, paying homage to his signature look and reputation. With Echo's connection to Daredevil from the comics, it's possible that this was an intentional move by Marvel Studios.
Of course, there could be more to it than just similar lighting. The harsh red light on her face and the fact that this is the first official look at Echo for the world to see could indicate that the character has some anger she is trying to sort through.
Maybe her intentions aren't so heroic. Could Clint and Kate end up on the wrong side of Echo's wrath?
Cox herself took to Instagram to share the comparison made by fans, as seen below:
The Daredevil is in the Details
There has been an endless chain of rumors that Charlie Cox is set to return to the MCU as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. The first of these rumored appearances is for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The character Echo has a strong connection to Daredevil in the comics as well as to the mantle of Ronin—the same mantle that fans will see in relation to Clint, Kate, and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova.
Not only does Maya Lopez have close ties to the blind vigilante, but she also happens to be the adopted daughter of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin in Marvel Comics. Coincidentally, Vincent D'Onofrio is also rumored to be returning to the MCU in that same role, which he made famous in Netflix's Daredevil.
There are a lot of compelling rumors and coincidences that make all of the whispers seem like truths. Looks like fans will have to wait until the show starts airing on November 24 this year to know for sure.
