The season finale of Loki on Disney+ might have been one of the biggest MCU moments to date.
Not only did the episode introduce Jonathon Majors as He Who Remains, but it also unleashed the Marvel multiverse which looks to play out in the new What If...? Disney+ series and impact the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness films.
In addition, Loki currently stands as one of two MCU Disney+ series, the other being What If...?, to receive a confirmed second season; and considering all that went down in the finale and what's to come, it's practically impossible to predict what Loki Season 2 could hold.
Fortunately, Loki's own Tom Hiddleston has been generous enough to shed a little light on what fans can expect from the second chapter of the hit series.
TOM HIDDLESTON TALKS LOKI SEASON 2
According to Empire Magazine, Hiddleston claimed that Season 2 Loki won't just be searching for Sylvie, but also bearing the weight of what happened in the finale and "invested in setting it right:"
"I don't think he will stop searching [for Sylvie] now. He feels that this is something he has done, a mistake that he has made, and he's invested in setting it right."
Sylvie, played by Sophia Di Martino, is a female Variant of Loki who Hiddleston's Loki fell in love with.
In the finale, she somewhat betrayed Loki by pushing him through a time door, allowing her to kill He Who Remains and thus unleashing the multiverse.
Loki then finds himself at the TVA but in a different reality where Owen Wilson's Mobius doesn't know who he is and where the Time-Keepers aren't presented as those dictating the flow of time.
PRUNING THE POSSIBILITIES OF LOKI SEASON 2
While Hiddleston had few words to share about Loki Season 2, there's a lot from his quote that fans can take away from.
For instance, the fact that Loki bears guilt and responsibility supports his character arc from Season 1. Although, coping with guilt and past mistakes could set him down a new dark path.
Secondly, Sylvie and Loki are separated for the time being, perhaps fans may see more of a solo story from her character and maybe more of her own arc.
Finally, while Marvel Studios hasn't confirmed a release date for Loki's second season, it isn't likely to debut before Spider-Man: No Way Home or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Since Loki will be determined to make things right in the next season, this could imply that the multiverse and its implications won't be resolved by the Doctor Strange sequel and could, in fact, be worse.
While only time will truly tell, Hiddleston has already teased more surprises to come in Season 2 while Disney+ also hinted at what characters could return. In the meantime, Loki fans will be interested to see how the MCU's upcoming theatrical slate plays out and how that could influence Loki's next steps.
