Tom Hiddleston's Loki is continuing to make waves throughout its streaming run on Disney+, bringing exciting thrills and unpredictable plot twists through each of its four episodes so far. Taking the leading role in a wild adventure through the course of space and time, the God of Mischief has seen more than his fair share of insanity all before being pruned into another dimension.
Marvel Studios' behind-the-scenes team has done everything they can to bring a fully immersive experience, expanding on Loki's life both before and after this series' events in the MCU's own Sacred Timeline.
Part of this came through Mobius' trip with Loki down memory lane looking at his past and future, showcasing his ever-changing nature through the Infinity Saga. This plot was even teased in the opening scene of Episode 1, in which Hiddleston's lead was asked by the TVA receptionist to "please sign to verify this is everything [he's] ever said."
Thanks to an eagle-eyed Twitter user, fans can now see more of what Loki was actually asked to verify in this stack of paper...
THANOS' INFLUENCE ON LOKI
Twitter user @loki_supremacy pointed out that the credits sequence for Marvel Studios' Loki includes a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" moment showing written dialogue, seemingly spoken by the God of Mischief, that references Thanos:
This piece of paper seemingly reveals some of what Loki said before he arrived at the TVA headquarters, which includes him revealing that he is "at the right hand of Thanos:"
"Friend, I think there's been a mistake. I am Loki, and you will regret this. I am burdened with glorious purpose. I stand at the right hand of Thanos [...] pleased to learn you've detained..."
This is presumably part of the stack of paper that Loki was made to verify as true near the start of the series' first episode, as the document also includes Loki's dialogue from The Avengers in which he said "If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now:"
"BURDENED WITH GLORIOUS PURPOSE"
Long-time MCU fans know that Loki was in the service of the Mad Titan Thanos as early as The Avengers, helping the Grimace look-alike to obtain the six Infinity Stones. While Avengers: Infinity War began with an end to this partnership via Loki getting his neck crushed, this Easter egg confirms their ties were as strong as ever in this part of the timeline.
With Loki taking place directly following the God of Mischief's escape with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, it makes logistical sense for the anti-hero to still be working for the MCU's biggest villain to date. It's also exciting to see some of what was possibly planned out for him in terms of lines in his first solo project in Phase 4.
Even though Loki watched his demise literally at the hands of Thanos, maybe the team behind his Disney+ series wanted to have him stand on his own more by removing these lines from his opening scene. After all, Loki is still regarded as one of the more formidable MCU villains thanks to his work in The Avengers, whether he was working for Thanos or not.
Regardless of the reasoning, this is yet another fun Easter egg from Marvel Studios as the Asgardian prince continues along this new path. With some of the craziest twists and turns of any MCU series yet after Episode 4, it will be thrilling to see what exactly comes next..
The first four episodes of Loki are available to stream on Disney+. Episode 5 will premiere on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
