Marvel's third Disney+ original series, Loki, is bringing the fan-favorite titular character as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston back to the MCU. However, the other characters in the series so far have all been new additions to the MCU, some of whom have become fan-favorites themselves.
One such character is Miss Minutes, an anthropomorphic orange clock who so far has delivered exposition on the workings of the Time Variance Authority and had some fun banter with Loki. Is she alive? Is she just a recording? It's still not clear. Whatever the case may be, Miss Minutes has quickly gained a following among Loki viewers.
Miss Minutes is voiced by veteran voice actor Tara Strong, who has been very receptive of the outpouring of enthusiasm for her latest animated character and recently stated that "there’s much more to be revealed" about her.
MISS MINUTES: A STAR ON THE RISE
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tara Strong discussed the fan base Miss Minutes has gained and what Loki's audience can expect from her going forward. In this chat, she confirmed that viewers will indeed "see her again" before the series is over, while promising that "there's much more to be revealed:"
"Well, I can cryptically tease that you’ll see her again. There’s much more to be revealed, and it’s fun to watch that unfold. When you see the first episode, you think perhaps that she’s just a recording on a screen, but in episode two, we see that she can become a holographic form and interact with Loki. He even responded to her and asked, “Are you a recording, or are you alive?” And we still don’t know."
Strong also touched on how she believes "the beautiful thing about this character" is the mystery surrounding her along with the fun of the audience being kept guessing on her true origin and nature:
"The beautiful thing about this character is you don’t really know who she is, where she’s from, what her origin story is, how sentient she is, if she has a horse in this race at all, and what her intentions are, if any. Like any good, exciting adventure, TV or film, you are left wondering that all the time. So she’s an intriguing character, and that will continue."
MISS MINUTES KEEPS TICKING
The audience's perception of Miss Minutes certainly changed from Loki's first episode to its second.
In "Glorious Purpose" she is only presented as a cartoon mascot for the TVA, only appearing on a screen at its headquarters, but in "The Variant," she is interacting with Loki and even jumping around on his desk. She already had fans going into that second installment, but the episode raised some questions about her and added a layer of mystery to her beyond the adorable exposition machine seen in the premiere.
With Loki director Kate Herron recently confirming a story arc for Miss Minutes, it seems likely the show will dive into her origin and full purpose sooner or later. The character's vague response to Loki's question about her nature is surely foreshadowing to whatever will come of this, and Tara Strong seems excited that fans have become invested in her newest character.
New episodes of Loki become available to stream Wednesdays on Disney+.
