Despite Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being just under a year away, the upcoming threequel is still on the tip of many fans' tongues. The James Gunn MCU epic has just finished filming and will now begin the long process of post-production. Not much is known about Vol. 3 except that is being marked as the darkest of the Guardians trilogy and will serve as the last time fans see this version of the interstellar team.
The iconic band of misfits will all be back aboard the Benatar in Guardians 3, with new addition Adam Warlock (played by Will Poulter) joining in on the fun.
It has been teased that the upcoming Marvel film will take a deep dive into Rocket Raccoon's backstory, where he was subject to horrible and gruesome experimentation. Counter-Earth's inclusion has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, but some recent set photos seem to substantiate its appearance in the film.
A Counter-Earth Confirmation for Guardians 3
Marvel's Counter-Earth
By way of some recently revealed photos from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set, The Cosmic Circus confirmed the inclusion of Counter-Earth in the upcoming film.
This set of newly leaked images features an alien language that The Cosmic Circus broke down. The first features the word "Counter" emblazoned across a police car, adding more weight to the rumors of Counter-Earth's part in the film's story.
This same language can be elsewhere on building exteriors in these shots.
This planet has been seen in the past images from the film's set, populated by bizarre animal hybrids.
Welcome to Counter-Earth
If there was any question that Counter-Earth would be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, those doubts are sure to be dashed with these images. The sleuthing on the part of The Cosmic Circus to discover the animal hybrids and High Evolutionary-related world has seemingly confirmed that Rocket Racoon's history will be explored in the upcoming threequel.
James Gunn has hinted in the past that Vol.3 will be the most tragic and darkest of the trilogy, and if Counter-Earth is a part of it, then it surely will. Counter-Earth is closely tied to the High Evolutionary who is directly responsible for the experiments which made Rocket into the bipedal, altered raccoon he is. While not the exact place where Rocket was experimented upon, in the comics this is the place where many similar tests do take place.
Rocket comes from a pretty grizzly and traumatic past, which will play well if this is in fact the darkest of the Guardians movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
