The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to bring back Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and his crew of ragtag misfits for a one-off festive adventure. The upcoming Disney+ special is directed by James Gunn, and it will bring back most of the cast, such as Dave Bautista's Drax, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon.

It is unknown where exactly The Holiday Special fits into the overall MCU timeline. But Gunn revealed that fans will need to watch it first to understand what's going on in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, saying that it contains "stuff that you need to learn before [the threequel]."

Gunn, in a tweet, also teased that the upcoming special would introduce "one of the greatest MCU characters of all time," thus fueling speculation from fans.

Now, the veteran director has once again hyped up The Holiday Special with interesting remarks.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special director James Gunn sat down with RadioTimes to talk about the upcoming Yuletide adventure that will premiere on Disney+.

Gunn first proclaimed that the upcoming holiday special is "the greatest thing [he's] ever done in [his] life," admitting that he and the cast and crew "can't believe that [they] are making it:"

“The Holiday Special is the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life. It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it."

Gunn then confirmed that The Holiday Special will premiere on the streaming service "this Christmas:"

“And it’s out pretty soon. You know, it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”

What To Expect in Guardians' Next Adventure

Many would agree that James Gunn's latest comment is a big deal, especially considering the director's impressive resume which includes the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad, and most recently, Peacemaker

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is the first full-on Christmas special under the MCU banner, and it's safe to say that Gunn has a strong belief that it will do well once it premieres on Disney+.

Based on previous outings, holiday specials have a terrible track record. A notable example is the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special which featured Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. Still, Gunn's remark could indicate that the Guardians-focused holiday special will be a far cry from the other specials that came before.

The Guardians' holiday special seems poised to stand out since it will feature familiar characters and a star-studded ensemble that fans know and love while being set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is expected to premiere on Disney+ in December 2022.
