After nearly two dozen projects working toward release in 2021 and 2022, Marvel Studios is looking forward to completing the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise with Vol. 3 in summer 2023. After building an unexpected hit of a team with Peter Quill, Rocket, Groot, and more, the galactic misfits are on their way to a third solo movie that will complete their MCU journey in just under two years.
While no specific plot details are known for Vol. 3 yet, director James Gunn teased that he and Marvel are planning the biggest and most emotional story yet for everyone's favorite "bunch of a-holes." The movie's stars have already been open about the tears that have flowed from reading the script, and it's clear that Gunn is ramping up the stakes to new levels for likely his last MCU outing.
With filming beginning near the end of 2021, fans have gotten little information on specific characters that will be appearing alongside the core team, whether it be major or minor roles.
That now changes to some extent thanks to a new casting call that will certainly raise some questions about the Guardians' next solo outing.
CASTING CALL FOR GUARDIANS VOL. 3
The Tammy Smith Atlanta Casting Facebook page shared a casting call for minor roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Marvel Studios.
The call is looking for "short/small" men and women between 4'0" and 5'3" of any ethnicity and over 18 years old. They are set to be in full prosthetic make-up, cannot be claustrophobic, and will be portraying child-type characters.
Filming for these characters is set to take place on November 16 of this year and in March 2022.
WHO COULD THESE TINY PEOPLE BE?
The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been well-known for bringing dozens of different alien races of all shapes, sizes, and colors into play over the last seven years. With the team on a new journey after Avengers: Endgame and likely Thor: Love and Thunder, the question that now remains is what kind of beings these smaller people will bring to life on the big screen.
One option for this group could be something like Blackjack O'Hare and the Awful Eight, who are a group of walking, talking animal-like beings similar to Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon. With rumors that this movie could explore Rocket's tragic backstory more deeply, this group could provide something of an origin story in a way to explain how the gun-wielding rodent first came to be.
With no way to tell exactly who these characters will be in the plot, fans will have to wait to find out more details as filming for Guardians 3 inches closer to its start date. James Gunn and his team have a history of bringing some of Marvel's more outlandish heroes and villains into play, which should only mean something thrilling for his third solo effort with the galactic heroes.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
