Marvel Studios makes projects for its fans first, but it's still keen on seeking some hardware for its work.

Ever since Black Panther received a Best Picture nomination at 2019's Academy Awards, the potential for superhero projects to receive award recognition became all the more tangible. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially entering the streaming series game this year, the MCU has an abundance of material primed for accolade potential.

Even as Loki is currently in the middle of its six-week run, Marvel Studios has already begun its "For Your Consideration" process with the first two completed seasons of streaming television. The MCU kicked off Phase 4 with WandaVisiona limited series that tugged at the heartstrings of viewers worldwide.

While Elizabeth Olsen and company flexed their acting chops over nine episodes of drama-heavy television, the seemingly action-focused The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had just as much pulse-pounding character work.

Between Sebastian Stan's tear-jerking Wakanda scene, Anthony Mackie's gripping discourse with Carl Lumbly, and Kari Skogland's overall direction throughout the show, the star-spangled series has plenty to tout to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

ACCOLADES FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA?

Even with 25 complete installments in the most lucrative franchise in entertainment history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe still has a lot to prove to top-tier award shows. The MCU has racked up 19 Oscar nominations in its 13-year history but was only victorious three times. This is the first time the MCU is going all-in on television, which means it's prepared to go all-in on awards contention as well.

WandaVision may be the studio's shining star when it comes to dramatic television performances, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has plenty of rich episodes and outstanding characters to push towards the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Five of the show's six episodes are being touted for Best Writing for a Drama Series, which goes to show how confident Marvel Studios is in this series as a whole. Fortunately for Sam and Bucky, WandaVision's writing noms are being sent in the Best Limited Series category, which means Marvel has the chance to clean up in multiple categories rather than pitting their own originals against each other.

Some acting nominees may come as a surprise, but it is important to clarify that sending in nearly every prominent actor is industry standard. Even after she was fired from The Mandalorian, Disney still sent Gina Carrano's name in for Emmy consideration because of how involved she was in the series. Actors that only appeared briefly like Adepero Oduye or Georges St. Pierre likely won't receive nominations in their respective categories, but it's customary to at least include them.

While the Emmys are the brass ring when it comes to television awards, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has some hardware already in its trophy case. Anthony Mackie took home the Best Hero award at this year's MTV Movie Awards, and his bromance with Sebastian Stan was enough to add Best Duo to their list of wins that night.

All six episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are streaming now on Disney+.
