Captain America, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The anticipation surrounding The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is at an all-time high, especially after the debut of the main trailer of the MCU series. The series will reunite Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in a globetrotting adventure , with the pair being pitted against the returning Baron Zemo alongside a dangerous conspiracy.

As the show's premiere gets closer, plot details about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are slowly being unraveled. It was confirmed that the Sokovia Accords will still play a major part in the overall narrative while other MCU veterans like Sharon Carter and James Rhodes are expected to aid the titular characters in some form.

Now, the latest trailer may hint at a key plot point that revolves around a fan-favorite MCU character.

THE LEGACY OF STEVE ROGERS

The latest trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier included several scenes that showcase some kind of memorial for Steve Rogers.

The first evidence is the shot of several military men gathered together in what looks like to be a memorial service for soldiers.

In the same scene, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is looking sad while holding Cap's shield. This is on top of the inclusion of a Captain America banner in the background.

All in all, these scenes suggest that the public will pay tribute to Rogers in grand fashion.

CAPTAIN AMERICA NO MORE?

On the surface, it makes narrative sense for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to at least showcase a tribute to Steve Rogers. After all, the series will focus on the legacy of Captain America's shield.

Spider-Man: Far From Home established that the public knows that Steve Rogers died during the final battle with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame . It looks like this memorial service will take place weeks after Tony Stark's funeral in Endgame , considering that the events of Far From Home happened months after the 2019 blockbuster.

If this is the case, it would explain how the public was made aware of Rogers' “sacrifice” in the final stand against Thanos, thus explaining the numerous tributes that the hero received.

Interestingly, Sam can be seen holding the shield while the service is ongoing, and this could very much hint that he will leave the shield behind. By connecting the dots, this moment could help explain how the government was able to retrieve the shield, ultimately leading to their decision to choose the next Captain America.

On the flip side, there's also a chance that this is Steve's funeral as well, and all of this was done to pay respect to the fallen Avenger.

Whatever the case, it will be interesting to learn how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will handle Steve Roger's legacy in the MCU.
