It's been a long and winding road for the production of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam within the DCEU, but it finally appears to be getting off the ground and turning on the cameras for filming. The movie officially set a release date for July 2022 between The Batman and The Flash , nearly a year before the character's top nemesis from the comics, Shazam, is featured in his second solo movie.
As has been the case with many of the DCEU's upcoming movie, Black Adam made headlines regularly by adding some high-profile names to appear alongside the wrestler-turned-megastar. This includes Aldis Hodge donning the massive wings of Hawkman while former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan will bring Doctor Fate to the big screen for the first time.
The casting news continues today for this movie, although not much is known outside a name and his relationship with the Rock...
BLACK ADAM GAINS A NEW CAST MEMBER
Deadline has reported that Warner Bros.' Black Adam in the DCEU has cast Uli Latukefu to play a mystery role in the film alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, and Pierce Brosnan.
Uli Latukefu portrays the college-era version of Johnson on the NBC sitcom Young Rock. Deadline reports that there's no confirmation yet whether Latukefu will play Johnson's superhero in Black Adam flashback scenes.
WHAT ROLE WILL LATUKEFU PLAY?
As mentioned above, there is no word regarding who Latukefu will play in The Rock's DCEU solo outing.
With the actor currently playing a young version of the movie's star in Young Rock on NBC, there's the slight possibility he may take on a similar role of a younger Black Adam for flashback scenes in this movie. However, this would likely mean he wouldn't see much screen time assuming the vast majority of the plot focuses on the adult version of the anti-hero.
It remains to be seen how closely connected his role is to Johnson's in Black Adam , but he should add some firepower to this already impressive cast list. Fans are hoping more information on his role becomes clearer the deeper the movie gets into filming, but for now, the lone fact that cameras are rolling has the fandom thrilled for the film's progress.
Black Adam is currently filming and will release in theaters on July 22, 2022.
