Prime Video's Sterling Point confirmed the age of its core characters through dialogue and references to past events. The latest coming-of-age drama follows Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), who leaves her privileged New York life with her twin brother, Connor, and adoptive father, Steven, after inheriting a remote Canadian island in the Muskoka region from her estranged grandfather, Gordon. Annie unpacked buried family secrets, discovering that she had a long-lost sister already living there. 

Alongside the game-changing reveal, Annie forges unexpected bonds with a tight-knit group of locals and summer visitors, including the free-spirited Oona, the quietly charming Ellis, Oona's younger sister Maple, and their easygoing friend Sully. Sterling Point premiered on Prime Video on August 5.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is heading to the streaming screen, and the two people who know Carl and Princess Donut more than anyone want to inform fans of one thing: the tone isn't changing. At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026, author Matt Dinniman and audiobook narrator Jeff Hays sat down for a roundtable interview with a group of press outlets, including The Direct, to discuss Peacock's upcoming live-action adaptation of Dinniman's bestselling LitRPG series.

During the chat, Dinniman and Hays made clear that staying faithful to the books' characters and tone is taking precedence with the new series. Dinniman said the show's "most untouchable element" is "the tone, the underlying horror of it," warning that a slapstick version of the story would mean "we know we've failed." Hays, for his part, was adamant that Princess Donut keep her edge, hoping the show doesn't "dumb her down and make her into comic relief." 

Both also used the time to sound off on the growing footprint of artificial intelligence in publishing, with Dinniman arguing that AI narration is "devaluing human creative art."

When Regular Show first aired in 2010 on Cartoon Network, it was hard to imagine it would become the pop culture staple it is. Two hundred and forty-four episodes later, across eight seasons, the series finally came to an end in 2017 with a fitting conclusion that didn't invite any continuation of the story.

To talk about why this interation was the perfect way to revive the show, at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026, The Direct spoke with Regular Show: The Lost Tapes stars Sam Marin (Pops) and Williamb Salyers (Rigby), alongside creatives JG Quintel (creator), Sean Szeles (executive producer), and Matt Price (head writer).

Hulu's The Shards is set to dig deep into the mystery behind the Trawler killer's identity, but Bret Easton Ellis' novel proved that viewers may be out of luck. Developed by Ryan Murphy for FX and Hulu, The Shards follows the story of 17-year-old Bret Easton Ellis and his privileged circle of friends as they navigate their senior year at an elite Los Angeles prep school in 1981, only to find themselves increasingly targeted by a serial killer known as the Trawler. 

While the thriller digs into the growing dread surrounding the Trawler's crimes and the arrival of a mysterious new student Robert Mallory (Homer Gere), the heart of the story hinges on the killer's identity. 

The Shards premiered on Hulu on August 6. 

Netflix's One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad) centers around the enchanted and often tragic world of the Buendia family. Based on Gabriel García Márquez's novel of the same name, the drama series traces seven generations of the Buendías through recurring names, forbidden romance, civil wars, and inescapable solitude in Macondo. One Hundred Years of Solitude Season 1 focused on the Buendia family's foundational years, centering around the cursed marriage of cousins José Arcadio Buendiá and Ursula Iguaran and their journey to find the isolated town of Macondo. 

100 Years of Solitude Season 2 then advanced through the timeline, exploring Macondo's modernization and eventual decline. It followed the adult lives of the twins Jose Arcadio Segundo and Aureliano Segundo, the arrival of Fernanda del Cario, and the introduction of the final generations of the Buendia family, including Renata Remedios, Amaranta Úrsula, and Aureliano Babilonia.

HBO reworked a piece of its upcoming Harry Potter reboot, months after the footage was first released online. The streamer debuted the series' trailer in March, offering fans their first glimpse of the adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books, likely mapped out across seven seasons. Reaction was polarizing, with viewers sounding off on the new take and Rowling's involvement ahead of its Christmas premiere. One particular gripe from that original trailer apparently struck a nerve hard enough the company changed it ahead of the show's December 25 release on HBO and HBO Max.

When HBO released the first teaser for Harry Potter this year, the response was swift and largely negative. Fans flooded social media comparing the murky, blue-grey palette to the warm, golden glow of the 2001 original, with many asking where the color of Hogwarts had gone. That criticism appears to have caused a creative shift. HBO's new promo, "The Best is Yet to Come," which aired before Episode 7 of House of the Dragon Season 3, shows a noticeably different grade across nearly every returning shot.

Henry Lasso was recast in Ted Lasso Season 4 for one reason, according to the show's new star. After an excruciating three-year wait, Ted Lasso, arguably Apple TV's most successful comedy, came back to the small screen with the first episode of Season 4. This also came with an expanded role for one of the show's most important characters, Henry Lasso, the son of Jason Sudeikis' leading football coach and a big part of the show's emotional core.

Apple TV cast young star Grant Feely to play the role of Ted Lasso's son, Henry Lasso, in Ted Lasso Season 4. Along with credits in both Five Nights at Freddy's movies, Feely also played the younger version of Luke Skywalker in Disney and Lucasfilm's Obi-Wan Kenobi series in 2022. Feely takes over the role of Henry from Gus Turner, who originally played Ted's son in the show's first three seasons.

Disney+ is preparing to end another major original series after Wonder Man, but it will get the justice and conclusion that the MCU show never did. Disney+ and Marvel Studios recently made waves by abandoning yet another potential multi-season MCU show, Wonder Man. The Hollywood satire comedy put a unique spin on the Marvel mythos by ignoring traditional superhero hijinks in favor of a heartfelt tale about two actor friends: Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery. Despite becoming one of the best-reviewed MCU shows, earning an Emmy nomination for star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and being renewed for Season 2 earlier this year, Disney+ has called it quits with Wonder Man for as yet unclear reasons.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, Disney+ and Hulu's Australian-made historical heist drama, The Artful Dodger, has been renewed for a third and final season. The series, which acts as a spin-off/sequel to Charles Dickens' 19th-century novel, Oliver Twist, has been beloved since it began in November 2023 and holds an incredible stellar 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not every San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) offsite needs to be massive to leave an impression, and Widow’s Bay proved exactly that with an atmospheric walkthrough that transported fans straight into the show’s mysterious world. Streaming on Apple TV, Widow's Bay follows Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), who arrives determined to revitalize a struggling New England island town, only to discover its residents believe they're living under an ancient curse.

House of the Dragon has focused on some new members of the Hightower family in Season 3, leaving many fans to wonder exactly how all of them are related to Olivia Cooke's Alicent Hightower, seeing as how she is the most prominent member of her family in the series. HBO's House of the Dragon has centered around the major event in the world of Westeros known as the Dance of the Dragons. Throughout the war, many different people within the Hightower family have been introduced and gotten involved.

While Alicent Hightower has been the main focus of the Hightower family in House of the Dragon, it is important to remember that, because she married Viserys Targaryen, there are some people in her family who don't have the Hightower name but are still related to her.

It is also worth mentioning that House of the Dragon Season 3 has finally introduced new characters into the show who have only been mentioned in previous installments. For example, Season 3 marked the first time that the show featured characters such as Ormund Hightower and Daeron Targaryen. Even though they were recognized as part of Alicent's family, fans are now glad to have faces with the names.

Invincible Season 5 looks closer than ever thanks to a fresh update surrounding the Amazon Prime Video series. Robert Kirkman’s adult animated superhero hit, which adapts his Image Comics run of the same name, wrapped its fourth season on April 22, ending on Mark Grayson’s uneasy truce with Lee Pace’s Grand Regent Thragg. Prime Video confirmed Season 5 in July 2025, months before Season 4 even premiered, and revealed at the time that the cast already finished recording their lines for the new season.

Now, Omni-Man actor JK Simmons revealed that voice recording for Invincible Season 6 officially began. Simmons shared the news in an interview with ScreenRant while promoting his upcoming series The Westies. Because animated seasons move through production in sequence, new voice work on Season 6 signals that Season 5 is nearly across the finish line ahead of its planned 2027 return.

Disney+ is officially developing a new live-action supernatural series with the makings of a Stranger Things replacement. In news bound to surprise many, Disney+'s original slate has more on offer than just the usual Marvel and Star Wars fare, including its blockbuster Percy Jackson adaptation, which is about to enter its third season. The streamer is also working on adaptations of other major novels, such as Eragon, Animorphs, Warrior Cats, and now The Last Kids on Earth.

According to Deadline, Max Brallier's 10-book children's series, The Last Kids on Earth, is getting a live-action adaptation on Disney+. Between its coming-of-age themes and monster apocalypse focus, The Last Kids on Earth has all the pieces in place to be Disney+'s answer to Netflix's biggest hit yet, Stranger Things.

Netflix attempted to reimagine The Last Kids on Earth as a three-season animated series from 2019 to 2021, releasing in the gap between Stranger Things Seasons 3 and 4, arguably at the height of the sci-fi horror mystery series' popularity. 

Raising Kanan Season 5 revealed a major twist after Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis) decided to fulfill his revenge against his uncle, Marvin (London Brown), in the season's penultimate episode. The tenous relationship between young Kanan Stark and his uncle Marvin stood as one of the show's most layered family dynamics. Starz's hit crime series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, introduced Marvin as the enforcer, the street-smart protector, and the emotional anchor of the Thomas family alongside his siblings Raq and Lou. 

Marvin looked out for his nephew, Kanan, while trying to keep the family intact. However, the pair's bond escalated into hostile territory, mainly because Kanan's growing independence and darker impulses frequently clashed with Marvin's. Wednesday Season 3 will swap out its most recent big bad with fresh, potentially more personal threats. Netflix's hit comedy-horror series introduced new threats lurking within the confines of Nevermore Academy, with deeper ties to a much larger conspiracy. Some of these threats included Tyler Galpin (aka The Hyde Monster), Marilyn Thornhill (aka Laurel Gates), and Joseph Crackstone. Wednesday Season 2 expanded the mysteries by introducing more dangerous villains, such as the Kansas City Scalper and Steve Buscemi’s Principal Dort. 

Wednesday Season 3 will replace Heather Matarazzo's Judi Spannagel as the main villain, introducing new threats while also bringing back key antagonists. Season 2 revealed Judi as the bird-controlling Avian mastermind behind a string of crow-related murders inside Nevermore and within its vicinity. She was the daughter of August Stoneheart, a former Nevermore teacher obsessed with stealing Outcast powers, and she was overseeing twisted experiments at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital under the LOIS program. 

Musafir Cafe Season 2 hopes rise as Netflix series writer-creator Sharanya Rajgopal teased the future of the hit romantic drama on social media. Musafir Cafe is an eight-episode Hindi romantic series based on Divya Prakash Dubey's novel and directed by Ruchir Arun. Set between Bhopal and Mussoorie, the story follows Chander Mohan Sharma's (Vikrant Massey) journey of love, longing, and self-discovery. In the past, Chander shared a passionate, complicated romance with the fiercely independent Sudha (Vedika Pinto). Years later, he builds a steady life running his dream café with Preeti (Mahima Makwana). 

In an Instagram post promoting the trailer for Musafir Cafe ahead of its Netflix release on July 24, series writer and creator Sharanya Rajgopal ended the post with an intriguing "Stay tuned" message, which could serve as a tease for a potential Season 2: 

"Bringing our trailer to you. 'Musafir Cafe' releases 24th July 2026.

This is all that my life has centred around for close to two years now. What happens now after this leaves me? Stay tuned."

Ginny and Georgia Season 4 is set to arrive soon on Netflix, and creator Sarah Lampert builds anticipation by revealing exciting behind the scenes details while fans wait for its release and Season 5 renewal. The hit drama series starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry continues the story of the complicated mother-daughter dynamic between the titular pair. 

Ginny and Georgia Season 3's ending completely changed the narrative trajectory of these characters. Paul (Scott Porter) decided to leave Georgia after discovering she had faked a pregnancy to keep him by her side during the murder trial. However, in the finale's final moments, the Netflix series revealed that Georgia was genuinely pregnant, without knowing whether the father is Paul or Joe. Meanwhile, Ginny's (Antonia Gentry) manipulation of Austin on the witness stand has fractured their sibling bond heading into Season 4. 

These seismic shifts set the stage for a highly personal and intense Season 4. Filming for the upcoming season of Ginny and Georgia have already wrapped in March 2026, and the countdown to when it will premiere on Netflix has begun, especially after Brianne Howey revealed in an interview in May 2026 that Ginny and Georgia Season 4 will premiere on the streamer sometime this year. 

Vermithor and Silverwing played major roles in the latest episode of House of the Dragon, but one particular scene has fans questioning whether the two dragons are actually lovers in the HBO series. As one could assume by the title, dragons are a pretty crucial part of HBO's Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon. Whereas there were only three winged beasts in the flagship series, more than a dozen of them have appeared in House of the Dragon. In that show, they are just as much characters as the actual humans are, and are deeply tied to Westerosi history and Targaryen lore, particularly when it comes to Vermithor and Silverwing.

In the most recent episode of House of the Dragon (Season 3, Episode 6, which was titled "Faceless Men"), part of the episode featured Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White sitting outside of the gates of Tumbleton, keeping an eye on the city as per Rhaenyra Targaryen's orders. Notably, Hugh is the rider of Vermithor, an extremely old and large dragon, and Ulf is the rider of Silverwing.

Ulf and Hugh have no connection whatsoever, except for the fact that they are Dragonriders, but when the pair were dismounted from their dragons, House of the Dragon thought it was important to include a shot of Vermithor walking up to Silverwing and essentially flirting with her. Specifically, Vermithor (who is also known as the Bronze Fury) stepped up to Silverwing and nuzzled her on the neck and side of her face, clearly showing affection toward her.

When The Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady announced that the comedy series' newest spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, was going to be a universe-hopping sci-fi comedy, it came as a surprise to many.  To accomplish this genre pivot, they enlisted The Avengers story co-writer Zak Penn for a tale that puts familiar actors in a barrage of unfamiliar situations. Now, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is streaming on HBO Max.

The Idea for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Sat on the Shelf for a Decade

Netflix's Ransom Canyon Season 2 introduced a pivotal twist that completely changed everything for Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher). Ransom Canyon Season 1 introduced Yancy as a mysterious drifter who arrived in the Texas Panhandle town of Crossroads looking for work on Cap Fuller's ranch. Over the course of the season, flashbacks established him as an ex-con with a hidden agenda, and Episode 9 made it clear he was no outsider. 

As it turned out, Yancy was the grandson of the late Cap Fuller, making him the heir to the Fuller Ranch after Cap's death. He ultimately rejected a massive offer to sell the land, chose to stay and build a life with Ellie (Marianly Tejada), and appeared ready to leave his crime-ridden past behind. However, Yancy's fresh start was disrupted by the arrival of his estranged wife, Sidney, at the end of Ransom Canyon Season 1, setting the stage for his possible return to jail after spending five years there.

The notion that Gwayne Hightower could be gay in House of the Dragon was recently brought back up in the show, this time due to intentionally rude and belittling comments made by his cousin, Ormund Hightower. House of the Dragon has mostly focused on the Dance of the Dragons (the Targaryen civil war) across its three seasons. Unlike Game of Thrones, which was more character-focused, House of the Dragon is more focused on its plot, which has meant that some characters haven't been explored as deeply as fans would like. However, the audience is finally learning more about some of the show's side characters in different ways.

Since his introduction in House of the Dragon, many fans have wondered and theorized whether Freddie Fox's Gwayne Hightower is gay in the HBO series. While it was left up to interpretation in the past, the most recent episode (Season 3, Episode 6, which was titled "Faceless Men") included some lines of dialogue that insinuated that he is.

For example, in the episode, Gwayne officially made it to Tumbleton after leaving Criston Cole's army just before Butcher's Ball, where Ser Criston finally met his end and went out in a fittingly anti-climactic way that wasn't song-worthy at all. Gwayne reunited with his Hightower family at Tumbleton, and it was clear there was some animosity between Gwayne and his first cousin, Ormund Hightower.
