Ghostbusters is a term audiences around the world have known since the original film was released in 1984. That classic introduced audiences to a team comprising Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson). Since then, there have been five different feature-length films, several comic book runs, books, and even an animated show. 

While fans are still waiting for the next live-action film in the series, Netflix revealed what might be the best project of the whole franchise: Ghostbusters: Night Shift. Night Shift, an animated series, takes place in New York City in 1994, five years after the Ghostbusters brought the Statue of Liberty to life in the middle of a city. While the original Ghostbusters parted ways not long after, that didn't keep terrifying supernatural forces at bay. When something strange in the neighborhood starts to cause trouble, a group of scrappy New Yorkers puts on proton packs and busts some ghosts.

With Netflix's recent success in animation with KPop Demon Hunters, fans should leave their doubt at the door and be ready for this terrifying new vision of the Ghostbusters franchise. Ghostbusters: Night Shift does not currently have a release date, but it is expected to drop on Netflix at some point in 2027.

Himesh Patel offered an update on the X-Files reboot, the new take on the sci-fi favorite, quietly moving forward at Hulu. Patel headlines the series opposite Danielle Deadwyler, with Black Panther and Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler writing and directing the pilot. The reboot keeps the bones of the original, trailing two FBI agents who chase the kind of cases the rest of the Bureau would rather bury.

During an exclusive conversation with The Direct while promoting Enola Holmes 3, the Netflix mystery sequel that brings Himesh Patel back as Dr. John Watson, Patel confirmed that the X-Files reboot pilot wrapped filming. He also shared an interesting detail on whether he and X-Files co-star Danielle Deadwyler will play completely new characters or fresh versions of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

One of the most important members of the Targaryen family has been left out of House of the Dragon throughout Seasons 1 and 2, but a recently released teaser for Season 3, Episode 3 finally revealed that he will be featured in the series. House of the Dragon is finally back with Season 3, and of course, that means more dragons, more battles in Westeros, and more Targaryens. Many fans debate whether the HBO show has done a good job adapting George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood faithfully, but those who have read the source material have all been wondering why Daeron Targaryen hasn't played a role in the show.

Following the release of House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 2, HBO unveiled a short teaser for Episode 3. The footage (which was shared via YouTube) included scenes strictly from Season 3, Episode 3. Notably, for the first time since House of the Dragon began in 2022, Aegon II, Aemond, and Helaena's brother, Daeron Targaryen, has been introduced on-screen.

At around the 0:22 mark in the preview, Matt Smith's voice can be heard saying, "Daeron Targaryen. He's a claimant to the throne. You're going to have to kill him."

Dwight's death in Dutton Ranch Episode 8 stemmed from a complex system that has been a staple established within the Yellowstone universe. The hit new spinoff from Taylor Sheridan's fledgling Yellowstone world reintroduced Carter as a teenager bound to make mistakes, and one of them is skipping school entirely to fulfill his dream of becoming a rancher. Carter forged a strong bond with Dwight White (Ray McKinnon), a seasoned rancher who eventually became a mentor-like figure for him during the Duttons' fresh start in South Texas.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender is just around the corner, debuting on June 25, and with it, audiences will meet new faces and be reunited with familiar ones. The show is born from the fan-favorite animated series, so many audiences already have an understanding of these characters.

One of those characters is Mai, a lieutenant of the villainous firebender Azula, and her close friend and confidant—alongside the chi-blocking Ty Lee. Mai's key trait is her indifference to everything around her, making her feel cold in her interactions.

The Direct sat down with Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender actor Thalia Tran, who revealed why she feels that her live-action version of Mai might be better than the original.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is finally back with Season 2 on Netflix, featuring seven new episodes, and it brings the beloved Book 2 of the original animated series to life. One new element of the show is an additional focus on Azula's lieutenants and close friends, Ty Lee and Mai.

The Direct sat down with star Momona Tamada, who portrays the chi-blocking acrobat Ty Lee, to discuss how her abilities work, the process the team went through to make it look convincing, how she's evolved going into Season 2, and what makes her character tick.

When it comes to how Ty Lee's chi-blocking abilities work, the actress said: "There was a lot of conversation of what paralyzes a person, and what blocks their bending."

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 concluded with a bang after the series finally revealed its new major villain, The Whispered One. Throughout Season 4, the heroes of the Prime Video animated series had many close encounters with the cult of the Whispered One, but the final episodes revealed the villain's true form and his power.

The series is an adaptation of Critical Role's first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, with the cast members returning to voice their characters and serve as producers. Ahead of The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4's release, The Direct spoke with Critical Role about bringing the Whispered One to life in Season 4 and casting the perfect actor to voice him.

Ginny and Georgia Season 4 received a much-needed release update from its lead star, Brianne Howey. Season 3 of the hit Netflix family drama series was released on June 5, 2025, ending the longest gap between seasons in the series' history, following a wait of over two years due to various factors. That delay stemmed from the 2023 Hollywood strikes, cast pregnancies, and adjustments to production timelines. While Ginny and Georgia Season 4 has no release date yet, early predictions point to a premiere in late 2026 or early 2027 at the latest. 

Speaking with New Beauty in May 2026, Brianne Howey, who plays Georgia Miller, confirmed that Ginny and Georgia Season 4 will "come out in the next couple of months," indicating a 2026 release for the Netflix series:

"'Ginny & Georgia' is going to come out in the next couple of months, and when I tell you that this is the best cliffhanger yet, it’s unparalleled. It doesn’t compare to last season’s cliffhanger." 

House of the Dragon Season 3 finally focused on one of the most rugged groups of people in all of Westeros - the Winter Wolves of the North. The Game of Thrones universe can already say it has had a strong 2026 thanks to the success of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, fans are being treated to a second series (House of the Dragon) within the same calendar year.

The Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon technically introduced viewers to the Winter Wolves. In a brief but important scene, some grey-bearded warriors carrying the banners of House Stark could be seen marching to war. Those were the Winter Wolves. Luckily for fans, Season 3 didn't take long to show just how ferocious they are, and one line of dialogue summed up their mentality.

House of the Dragon Season 3 presents the Winter Wolves exactly the way George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood does. They're hard, cold, fearless, and have nothing to lose. Roderick Dustin (who is also known as Roddy the Ruin, played by Marvel actor Tommy Flanagan) showed just how helpful the Winter Wolves can be to Rhaenyra’s cause by giving Daemon Targaryen the head of Jason Lannister. 

Dutton Ranch Episode 7's ending showed Carter (Finn Little) throwing the bull's head, an act of misguided rebellion that backfired devastatingly. Paramount+'s Yellowstone spinoff continued the story of Carter, Beth, and Rip after departing Montana to have a fresh start in South Texas. 

The now-19-year-old Carter represents the next generation of the Dutton legacy, with Dutton Ranch emphasizing how much he has changed. Carter's story centers around his brewing romance with Oreana Jackson (Natalie Lyn Alind). The pair's connection began when Carter stepped in to protect Oreana from her ex-boyfriend, leading to a genuine chemistry fueled with intimacy.

Netflix's I Will Find You confirmed whether or not Adam is truly a bad guy in Episode 6, but there's a catch about his betrayal. Harlan Coben's new trending thriller series introduced Adam Mackenzie (Jonathan Tucker) as David Burroughs' childhood best friend and the godfather to his son, Matthew. 

Adam was also the son of prison warden Philip Mackenzie, a longtime ally of David's family. Adam, a Boston Police sergeant, supported David when he learned that Matthew might be alive after he pointed out the photo that Rachel Mills gave him during her prison visit was real.

Netflix's I Will Find You confirmed that Hayden Payne (Milo Ventimiglia) is not a good person after the twist revealed he had kidnapped Matthew Burroughs. The new limited crime thriller miniseries is based on Harlan Coben's 2023 novel of the same name, chronicling the story of a devoted father named David Burroughs who was imprisoned for murdering his young son, Matthew. David has always maintained his innocence, claiming the crime happened while he was in a sleepwalking state. 

However, five years later, David's sister-in-law, Rachel (played by Severance star Britt Lower), uncovered a recent photo of what appears to be a living and well Matthew from an amusement park. This single photo reignited everything and kick-started I Will Find You's story, prompting him to risk everything by escaping from prison to find his son and prove his innocence.

House of the Dragon Season 3 immediately paid off one of the biggest cliffhangers from Season 2, particularly concerning Rhaena Targaryen and the dragon known as Sheepstealer. Now, fans are wondering what happens to Sheepstealer in the source material and whether it will be directly translated into the HBO series. 

House of the Dragon is finally back with the premiere of Season 3, and saying that it started out with a bang is nothing short of an understatement. A Song of Ice and Fire fans got to witness the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet in the season's first episode, as well as whether Rhaena successfully claimed Sheepstealer.

The dragon named Sheepstealer had a huge presence in the House of the Dragon Season 3 premiere. At the end of Season 2, it was revealed that Rhaena had stumbled upon Sheepstealer, an unclaimed wild dragon that had a reputation for being hostile and dangerous. The season ended with Rhaena in Sheepstealer's presence, but the show didn't reveal whether she could claim him.

The Legend of Vox Machina (TLOVM) co-creator Sam Riegel commented on the status of the fifth and final season of the animated fantasy series. The Prime Video show is focused on adapting the first Dungeons & Dragons campaign by Critical Role, with the 100+ episode original story being truncated into four (soon to be five) seasons of animation. The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 is only the beginning of the end for the beloved animated series. Season 5 is confirmed to be the last one, and it will round out the final arc with the Whispered One. Just how long fans will have to wait to see the finale, though, is another question. 

During an interview with The Direct for The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4, Sam Riegel (who both produces and voices Scanlan in the show) shared that the release date for The Legend of Vox Machina Season 5 is "up to the whims of television." Riegel tempered expectations, saying "producing a season of animated television takes a long time." He added that the scripts for TLOVM Season 5 were completed years ago, but "there's still more work to be done on other episodes:" 

"We never know, it's up to the whims of television. You know, producing a season of animated television takes a long time. We wrote these episodes two and a half years ago, or something like that. So Season 5 is in the works. We have finished some episodes of it, there's still more work to be done on other episodes. Then when we finish, it has to be adapted into different languages, and subtitled, and dubbed, and shipped all over the world and stuff, so it just takes a lot of time."

Alien: Earth is heading into weird territory for its second season, according to series star Timothy Olyphant. The Alien prequel takes place two years before the 1979 film, exploring life on Earth when an intergalactic research vessel crashlands, carrying with it a set of dangerous extraterrestrial specimens. The Hulu show wrapped up its first season in late 2025, and it wasn't long before a Season 2 was in development. 

Timothy Olyphant, who stars as the Prodigy synthetic Kirsh in Alien: Earth, teased to Empire Magazine in the latest issue that Season 2 of the show is "gonna get weird." The actor shared he'd read six episodes of the new season and praised them as "the best of Noah Hawley," aka the series' creator who also developed Fargo and Legion. Olyphant also hinted that the show has "matured into a really dynamic story," that is "relevant," "funny," and "f***ed up."

"Here's what I can tell you — s***'s gonna get weird. I've read the first six [episodes], and they're really, really, really good. It's just the best of Noah Hawley. Surprising, wonderful characters, rich world. I feel like it's just matured into a really dynamic story — relevant and urgent and funny and f***ed up.

Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You's character ages serve as a key detail that grounds the story, confirming what fans suspected about the two main protagonists. The 2026 anime adaptation from Crunchyroll follows the wholesome, slow-burning romance between two lonely adults, Sasaki and Yamada, after they forged a genuine, low-key connection over shared cigarette breaks behind a supermarket. 

One of the main topics of discussion among fans of Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You's two lead characters is their ages. The anime's official synopsis for its Crunchyroll release confirmed that Sasaki, a worn-out salaryman, is 45 years old at the start of the story in both the anime and the manga.  

"At age forty-five, office worker Sasaki has had enough of the corporate grind. His only solace is smoking-and the friendly smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. When Sasaki can't find Yamada after a particularly trying day, a striking woman invites him to smoke with her. The despondent man thinks he's made a new smoking buddy in the cool, teasing Tayama, but Sasaki doesn't realize he already knows her!"

Dragon Striker, the new sports fantasy series from Disney, premiered this month with a story its creators have planned to run across multiple seasons. The animated show follows a farm boy named Key, who enrolls at a magic academy to master Gorotama, a soccer-like game powered by supernatural abilities. Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, the two animators who created it, already know how Key’s story is meant to end. Whether they get the chance to tell all of it is a separate question.

Dos Santos and Lefebvre recently discussed the show’s future, and they revealed a five-season plan for its central story. The creators stopped short of promising the plan will play out in full. A second season, and everything after it, depends on how viewers respond to the first. Disney remains silent on a renewal, so the road to five seasons starts with the audience.

Dragon Striker quickly became one of Disney’s most popular new animated series when it premiered, and much of the praise focused on its LGBTQ characters and queer storytelling. The anime-inspired series follows a young farm boy named Key, who enrolls at a floating magic academy to play a high-stakes, soccer-like sport called gorotama. Disney Television Animation made the show with the French studio La Chouette Compagnie, and it climbed to No. 1 on Disney+ around the world within days of its June premiere.

The biggest piece of that conversation is the relationship between two young players, Odward Stonegarden and Casper Ferreiro. In the first season, Dragon Striker confirms that the two boys were once a couple, and the finale beautifully depicts their past romance in an emotionally intense scene. This makes the series one of the few Disney anime-style shows to put a gay relationship on screen as plain canon, and the storyline shaped both the plot and the show’s reception, including its rollout overseas.

All the Queen's Men Season 5 provided a major hint at who shot Madam Marilyn DeVille (Eva Marcille), and the likely suspects include those who have questionable loyalties. The final season of Paramount+'s hit drama series didn't waste time exploring the aftermath of Madam's situation. Madam stood trial in the All the Queen's Men Season 4 finale on serious criminal charges and was found not guilty on all counts. She celebrated her victory with her inner circle after leaving court. Madam returned to her office at Club Eden, telling Blue (her most loyal enforcer) that she could leave without her while insisting she'll be fine. However, an unknown suspect entered and shot Madam, and she was last seen bleeding out on the floor before the screen cut to black. 

The All the Queen's Men Season 5 premiere confirmed Madam was in a precarious coma, battling memory loss after the brutal shooting. As the sole witness who saw her attacker, her silence left the shooter free, and her life was in even greater danger as enemies circled Eden.
