Elsewhere in the Multiverse, Invincible looked very different with Omni-Man's J.K. Simmons playing another key role. Invincible is famous not just for being one of the best comic book shows of all time, but also for assembling one of the greatest casts. While the series is led by Steven Yeun's Mark Grayson, perhaps its most legendary portrayal is from Spider-Man actor J.K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, Invincible's complex Viltrumite antagonist-turned-reluctant hero. 

During an appearance on The Escape Pod, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that they "originally offered [J.K. Simmons] another role." While that information has been public knowledge for a couple of years now, the fresh development came in the reveal of exactly which crucial character that was.

The Boys' Jensen Ackles has shed more light on Soldier Boy's surprising turn in Season 5, Episode 5. The Supernatural star plays one of Vought's original superheroes, who is later revealed to be Homelander's (Antony Starr) biological father. After being put on ice in Season 3 of The Boys, Ackles is back playing Soldier Boy in the fifth and final season, but the two supes haven't been seeing eye to eye. 

Soldier Boy and Homelander have always had an unusual dynamic, with their egos and values often conflicting, yet also hiding a secret admiration and envy for one another. After Homelander sent Soldier Boy into the lion's den in Episode 2, where he was exposed to the supe-killing virus, the elder supe wanted nothing to do with his son, only tolerating him after he was sworn in as a member of The Seven. In Episode 4, Soldier Boy turned the tables on Homelander by locking him into a nuclear-powered room in Fort Harmony and leaving him to figure his way out. 

The duo's push-pull dynamic has left it unclear whose side Soldier Boy is really on, but Episode 5 of Season 5 confirmed that the two Supes are turning a corner. After the father and son visited LA to try to track down V1 at Mister Marathon's (Jared Padalecki) house, Soldier Boy was given the opportunity to end Homelander, after Marathon and his companion, Malchemical (Misha Collins), gassed Homelander and left him exposed. Marathon begged Soldier Boy to kill Homelander and put an end to his tirade, but instead, Soldier Boy turned on them. 

Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) finally revealed her ultimate endgame in the latest episode of The Boys Season 5. Sage was introduced in Season 4 of The Boys, where she became a member of The Seven and used her superintelligence to aid Homelander (Antony Starr) with his plans for world domination. The fifth and final season of Prime Video's superhero satire show has been, as promised, a brutal affair, but if Sister Sage gets her wish, it's only about to get worse.

During Season 5 Episode 5, titled "One-Shots", Sister Sage meets with Ashley (Colby Minifie), the ex-CEO of Vought and new Vice President of the United States. Season 5 has revealed that since Ashley injected herself with Compound V, she's gained psychic abilities via a second head growing out the back of her skull (nicknamed Bashley). 

In an effort to get Bashley to help her with her plans, Sage gets Ashley drunk and, in doing so, reveals her vision. Sage needs Bashley to read Soldier Boy's (Jensen Ackles) mind so she can ensure Homelander doesn't get his hands on the rare V1, which would make him immortal. This is crucial because Sage's master plan doesn't involve Homelander, and she's been secretly plotting against him.

The Boys Season 5, Episode 5 featured another major death caused directly by Homelander, but this impulsive act may have increased his own vulnerability heading into the final episodes. The Boys' final season wasted no time ramping up the body count, opening with A-Train's shocking death in the premiere, while the latest episode delivered another brutal twist with Firecracker's (Valorie Curry) unexpected demise. Both of these deaths were carried out by Homelander, highlighting the harsh truth that total loyalty to him offers no protection from his growing paranoia. 

Firecracker's death in The Boys Season 5 came at an unfortunate time because Episode 5 showed signs of her redemption. Firecracker's arc in Season 5 has mainly revolved around her intense loyalty to Homelander, anchored by her role in spreading his propaganda as the new god and the world's messianic figure. 

IT: Welcome to Derry is preparing Pennywise's next cycle and producer Andy Muschietti has revealed fresh details about Season 2's plot. The HBO Max horror series serves as a prequel to the IT film duology, directed by Muschietti and starring Bill Skarsgard as the iconic clown. Expanding on the lore from Stephen King's classic novel, Welcome to Derry is almost an anthology in style, chronicling Pennywise's activities across different time periods in Derry.

HBO has yet to officially green-light Season 2 of Welcome to Derry, but during Deadline's Contenders TV panel, Muschietti revealed they were already working on it. Muschietti and his producing partner, Barbara Muschietti, have noted in the past that each season of Welcome to Derry is designed to be 27 years apart, focusing on a different feeding cycle for Pennywise, and working backward from 1988, the main time period in which IT was set. Season 1 took place in 1962 and featured some of the relatives of characters from the IT films.

Muschietti confirmed during the panel that Season 2 of Welcome to Derry will take place in 1935 and focus on the Bradley Gang massacre, which was only mentioned in King's novel. Muschietti outlined that the Bradley Gang is a team of bank robbers who stop in at Derry only for "something horrible" to happen to them:

Antony Starr's villainous Homelander just made another devastating decision in The Boys Season 5, leading to the death of a member of The Seven.

At the end of The Boys Season 5, Episode 5, Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy informs Homelander that he's not only been sleeping with Valorie Curry's Firecracker, but she's been having doubts about her new God. This obviously upsets Homelander, leading him to pay Firecracker a visit and deliver the news that she's being let go from The Seven.

Colleen Hoover's Verity is set to chronicle a thrilling story about unlocking a terrifying truth about motherhood, marriage, and an unexpected murder. Based on Hoover's best-selling novel of the same name, Verity follows the story of Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who hired a struggling writer, Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), to finish her bestselling novel after she was left incapacitated by a car accident. 

Lowen had to relocate to the remote Crawford estate to finish the job, leading her to uncover Verity's chilling autobiographical notes that expose uncomfortable truths about Verity's husband, Jeremy (played by Trap star Josh Hartnett). 

Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner. The movie will premiere in theaters on October 2. 

A critically acclaimed superhero TV series on Prime Video will not return for Season 3. The show belongs to one of the most popular satirical franchises on streaming, a part of the same bloody, R-rated universe that turned Homelander into one of TV’s most chilling villains. This show leaned into political commentary, body horror, and dark comedy, following a group of young Supes chasing after fame on a college campus.

That series is Gen V, the The Boys spinoff that Prime Video just canceled after just two seasons. Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg, and Eric Kripke developed Gen V, which followed Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and a group of students at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, the in-universe school that funnels Supes into Vought’s hero pipeline. The show's two seasons tie into the events of The Boys, with major plot lines influencing both series simultaneously. With the parent show ending and its spinoff axed, the future of the wider Vought Cinematic Universe is looking very different now. 

HBO officially confirmed what happened to Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) after Euphoria Season 3, Episode 3's devastating cliffhanger, and he's still in deep trouble. The latest episode of HBO's original drama made headlines for the much-anticipated wedding of Nate and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), which descended into chaos when an unexpected wedding crasher arrived. 

As it turned out, Nate owed a lot of money to a dangerous Russian loan shark named Naz, and he was out to collect by any means necessary. Nate was badly beaten up by Naz's henchman after the wedding, culminating in Naz cutting off Nate's toe to serve as a gruesome warning. 

Does Nate Die In Euphoria Season 3?

Euphoria Season 3, Episode 3 delivered a beating to Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), and it's largely due to a debt that changed his life forever. The third season of HBO Max's original drama series by Sam Levinson brought back the core characters from the first two seasons, and they all changed in more ways than one. 

One of these characters is Nate, who appears to have matured in the show's five-year time jump, taking over his father's construction business and on the verge of marrying Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney). Nate, though, is having some money problems in Euphoria Season 3, which is amplified by the fact that Cassie wants an expensive wedding. 

Why Nate Gets Beat up in Euphoria

The Boys Season 5, Episode 4 showcased Homelander's vulnerability that could provide a hint on how he can truly be defeated at the end of the season. The Boys is laying the groundwork for Homelander's potential downfall as the ragtag group of protagonists race against time to ultimately kill him (or at least permanently depower him) to end his tyrannical reign of terror. The key to victory lies in the elusive V-One, the far more potent prototype of Compound V. Beyond granting powers, this ancient formula effectively halts aging, granting its user near-immortality and immunity to Billy Butcher's Supe-killing virus. 

In The Boys Season 5's latest episode, Soldier Boy (who almost died in The Boys Season 5, Episode 2) delivered a gut-wrenching (albeit temporary) betrayal by trapping Homelander inside an old Vought supermarket containment chamber at Fort Harmony. This reinforced vault was historically used to test whether supes could survive nuclear blasts. 

Disney CEO Bob Iger made it official on the company's Q1 2026 earnings call in February that the standalone Hulu app is going away, with the full Hulu library folding into Disney+ before the end of the calendar year. The Nintendo Switch version of the app already pulled the plug on February 5, the first domino in a shutdown that will happen throughout 2026. A Hulu subscription will still exist as a standalone product, but the app itself, the one that has carried The Kardashians, Dancing with the Stars, and The Handmaid's Tale for years, is on a countdown. 

This merger is happening because Disney now owns all of Hulu, and running two separate apps no longer makes sense. Disney bought out NBCUniversal's 33 percent stake in 2025 to take full control. Collapsing Hulu into Disney+ lets the House of Mouse run both services as one, helping cut operational costs and making it easier for subscribers to access all content in one place. 

However, before this happens, Hulu will go on one last rodeo and release a good number of blockbuster shows. The rollout kicked into gear on April 22 at the streamer's second annual Get Real House event in Beverly Hills. Khloé Kardashian, Parker Posey, Heidi Klum, and Stassi Schroeder all took the stage to confirm new series and returning seasons, most of which will be released in 2026 while the Hulu app is still live. 

Disney+ is investing in an exciting new sci-fi show that isn't Marvel or Star Wars, and it's based on one of the pivotal young adult franchises from the 1990s. The Walt Disney company has been capitalizing on nostalgia of late, releasing sequels to fan favorites like The Devil Wears Prada 2, Camp Rock 3, and a Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special. That trend isn't slowing down, as the company recently confirmed it is developing a revival of a sci-fi franchise, outside of its Marvel and Star Wars brands.

In early April, it was reported by numerous Hollywood trades that Ryan Coogler and his Proximity Media production company are developing an Animorphs TV show for Disney+. The report revealed that the revival is in early development with Bayan Wolcott (The Testaments) attached to showrun. Coogler is currently overseeing a revival of another classic TV show, in the X-Files reboot (and will soon move on to Black Panther 3), but is attached to produce the show alongside Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler.

Based on the book series by K.A. Applegate (the pen name shared by Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant), Animorphs released 54 novels between 1996 and 2001. It was also adapted into a two-season TV series, which aired on Nickelodeon between 1998 and 2000.

British sci-fi series Misfits began 17 years ago, and it's well overdue for a comeback. Many British audiences will remember Misfits, a five-season sci-fi comedy-drama that aired on E4 from 2009 to 2013. The series starred a group of young offenders who gained superpowers in an electric storm, with the clever twist that each of their powers was tailored to their personalities. For example, Simon Bellamy, played by Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon, felt ignored and overlooked by society, which was manifested in his power to turn invisible. 

The beloved five-season sci-fi holds a 92% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a strong 80% audience score. Misfits explored sci-fi elements such as time travel with heavy dark comedy and themes of unwanted responsibility. One storyline saw Simon travel back in time under the alias of Superhoodie to prevent another character's death, ultimately leading to his own death to complete a time loop.

Misfits ended in 2013 after five seasons due to declining viewership, the loss of its original cast, and a decline in quality. While the British Misfits were left behind, that didn't stop Freeform from plotting a U.S. adaptation in 2016 from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

In the Season 4 finale of Invincible, "Don't Leave Me Hanging Here," Thragg confronted Mark shortly after he returned to Earth, giving him an ultimatum. One that Mark eventually, and reluctantly, accepted, finally putting an end to the season-long Viltrumite War. Their business concluded, Thragg flew away, but not before telling Mark, "You will not hear from me again."

However, Thragg's whereabouts were left a mystery to the audience. Many show-only fans have wondered whether he, like his Viltrumite people, chose to hide on Earth to contribute to their efforts to repopulate. But the answer from the comics is honestly a lot sadder than one would expect from someone as seemingly composed and pragmatic as the Grand Regent.

Spider-Noir has revealed its first original villain, who comes with devastating fiery powers. The upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video series is a live-action spin-off of Sony's Spider-Verse films, starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly/Spider-Noir, the character he voices in the animated movies. While set in an alternate universe, Spider-Noir still has ties to many Marvel characters, but the series also isn't afraid to introduce a few of its own.

One such new character is a villain named James "Jimmy" Addison (played by Jack Mikesell), who has been briefly sighted in Spider-Noir's trailers and the latest villains featurette. The character is shown to be able to summon and wield flames. 

For a while, many fans theorized that this character would turn out to be the Marvel villain Molten Man, who could turn his body into molten flames. Spider-Noir already has an array of villains with comic book counterparts, so linking Jimmy to Molten Man seemed to make sense. However, an interview with Spider-Noir showrunner Oren Uziel via IGN has confirmed this may not be the case.

Season 4 of Invincible has come to an end, with Thragg and the rest of the Viltrumites remaining on Earth as a looming threat, plotting to slowly repopulate their species in secret. However, their silent invasion overshadowed Cecil and the Global Defense Agency's final attempts at saving Robot and Monster Girl from the Flaxan dimension.

In Season 4, Episode 3, "I Gotta Get Some Air," the Flaxans return after their civilization was reduced to rubble by Omni-Man in Season 1. The interdimensional invaders once again prepared for whatever the heroes could throw at them. They even came with mechsuits that could withstand Nolan's power, giving Invincible a hard time as more and more soldiers poured in.

The Pitt Season 3's confirmed time jump presents all kinds of problems for Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) and the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's (PTMC) Emergency Department (ED). Each season of the hit HBO Max medical drama unfolds in real time over a single 15-hour shift in the ED, with Season 2 set during the Fourth of July weekend. The show's sophomore run featured firecracker-related injuries and the challenges of working on a major holiday in the United States. 

Following the confirmation from The Pitt creator R. Scott Gemmill about Season 3's four-month time jump from July to November (via TV Line), The Pitt lead star and executive producer Noah Wyle spoke with People to share more details about this timeline shift. 

Wyle revealed that the doctors and nurses at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center will face a fresh set of challenges tied to the colder season, highlighting how the winter weather will bring new types of injuries and emergencies to the ED. 

The X-Files is so iconic that, whether you've seen it or not, nearly everyone has at least heard its name, and it has influenced countless stories since its inception. The X-Files, which premiered in 1993, followed FBI agents Fox Mulder (the believer) and Dana Scully (the skeptic), a duo who investigated unsolved cases labeled as paranormal, otherwise known as the "X-Files."

Thankfully, fans can now watch all 218 episodes of the classic sci-fi series for free on Pluto TV's streaming service, which is not only perfect for longtime fans but also opens the door to new audiences.

To celebrate the release of all episodes of the series on its streaming platform, Pluto TV hosted a contest to find the biggest X-Files fan in the world. The lucky winner would then be hosted at an undisclosed desert location and watch the entire series in a nonstop marathon over nine days. Along the way, they'll get plenty of snacks, drinks, and get to stay in a cool crib, but they'll also need to debrief and vlog their time bingeing the show.

The Boys Season 5 revealed the Seven's newest roster, and it brings with it an iconic supe addition. The Seven rotated through a roster of heroes across The Boys, with Antony Starr's Homelander being the only true consistency. Members have come and gone over the years, but the group has rarely lived up to its namesake by featuring seven supes. Departed members of the Vought-sponsored roster have included Queen Maeve, Starlight, Translucent, Lamplighter, Supersonic, Stormfront, and the original Black Noir before Homelander killed him.

The Boys Season 5, Episode 3, featured a Vought (totally not propaganda) video and press conference at Seven Tower, which unveiled the supe team's updated roster for the Amazon Prime Video series as it announced a new, familiar member.

Jensen Ackles' Captain America-esque World War II supe, Soldier Boy, is the newest member of the Seven, standing beside his son, Homelander, as The Boys heads toward the finishing line and the final face-off with Vought. The update confirms that Soldier Boy is alive and well after almost being killed in Episode 2.
