Fans of George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book will be excited to hear that the Cannibal, an extremely dangerous and unpredictable wild dragon, could finally be featured in House of the Dragon Season 4, as his existence was recently teased by the official House of the Dragon VFX team. House of the Dragon just wrapped up its third season on HBO and HBO Max, leaving fans with the high-stakes First Battle of Tumbleton from George R.R. Martin's source material. Throughout the show's three installments, viewers have been introduced to more than a dozen dragons, but it seems as though one particular beast from the book that has not been featured in the show could be included in the fourth and final season.

House of the Dragon released an official VFX breakdown of House of the Dragon Season 3 following the end of the third installment, and at one point in the video, the VFX artists included a comparison between different designs for Sheepstealer (the dragon belonging to Rhaena Targaryen), with one of those comparison renderings specifically including the name of the Cannibal, a wild dragon that has not been seen in House of the Dragon.

Netflix is holding back the release of Ginny and Georgia Season 4 until after the arrival of brand-new seasons of major shows from the streamer, such as Emily in Paris' final season and The Gentlemen this fall. The anticipation surrounding Ginny and Georgia Season 4 remains high, but the long wait has been slowly derailing its momentum. Season 3 premiered on Netflix on June 5, 2025, focusing on the high-stakes murder trial of Brianne Howey's Georgia while navigating her crumbling marriage with Paul, almost losing her kids' custody, and a game-changing pregnancy reveal that raises more questions than answers. Production has already wrapped on Ginny and Georgia Season 4, but Netflix is prioritizing a solid lineup of returning hits and high-profile new projects to elevate the streamer's second-half-of-the-year slate before continuing the Wellsbury saga. 

Netflix officially confirmed that Ginny and Georgia Season 4 will premiere in 2027, meaning that fans will have to wait a little bit longer before seeing Brianne Howey's Georgia and Antonia Gentry's Ginny again on the small screen. The announcement came months after Howey said in a May 2026 interview that Season 4 would arrive on Netflix later this year, but plans have since changed. While this move may be disappointing to diehard fans of the show, the decision might be a good thing for Ginny and Georgia's future. 

Beauty in Black Season 4 received an exciting update from Netflix as Season 3's ending teased the transition of one character into a major villain. Tyler Perry's hit drama series follows the story of exotic dancer Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) and enterpreneur Mallory Bellarie (Crystle Stewart) as their lives unexpectedly gets intertwined. The latest season, Beauty in Black Season 3, picks up after Season 2's fallout, unveiling that Kimmie has a spot at the Bellarie table, but a deadly feud forces her into an uneasy alliance with Mallory to keep the business from collapsing. The premise of seeing Kimmie and Mallory on the same side makes for great storytelling primed for a final season. While Season 3 was initially planned to be the show's swan song, Netflix and Tyler Perry reversed course on Beauty in Black's fate. 

In July 2026, Netflix officially announced a surprise Season 4 renewal for Beauty in Black in a video package featuring Tyler Perry and lead stars Taylor Polidore Williams and Crystle Stewart, confirming that it is "coming soon" on the streamer.

HBO's Harry Potter series is following the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," by bringing another actor with a history with the franchise into the fold. In an era where great shows are getting the axe left and right, HBO is putting its money where its mouth is by pouring all of its resources into its Harry Potter project. Filming for Season 2 is already underway, months before the debut outing is set to release.

A quick turnaround between seasons leaves HBO little time to get all the magical pieces in place. Nicholas Hoult originally signed on to play eccentric author Gilderoy Lockhart in the sophomore outing, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. However, he had to drop out due to scheduling issues, leaving a massive void on set.

Grey's Anatomy Season 23 is officially bringing back another fired doctor in 2026, and his return is quite unexpected after what happened in the Season 22 finale. ABC's long-running medical drama has a history of firing doctors, often for serious mistakes or rule-breaking. Despite that, Grey's Anatomy also embraced the practice of frequently bringing back fired doctors after they've grown or when circumstances change. Following the major cast exits of Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman in the emotional Season 22 finale, the episode also revealed that Dr. Benson "Blue" Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) was fired by Dr. Richard Webber after unlawfully administering an experimental hydrogel treatment to a liver cancer patient. Dr. Miranda Bailey tried to prevent the firing, but Webber insisted that his decision to fire Kwan was final. 

With his fate uncertain, many are expecting him not to return in Grey's Anatomy Season 23, but a new official update cemented his comeback. ScreenRant's Fall TV Preview 2026 revealed the first look at Grey's Anatomy's 2026 season, confirming that Dr. Kwan is back in the upcoming slate of episodes. The image showed Kwan playing video games with medical intern Wes Bryant (Trevor Jackson) while Dr. Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) observes them from afar. 

Kwan's return is exciting because it lays the groundwork for his potential redemption and rehiring at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. 

When Vought Rising revives The Boys universe on TV in 2027, it will bring with it several of its most powerful supes, even more powerful than Karl Urban's Billy Butcher. The Boys is based on the gory, raunchy graphic novel series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, set in a world where superheroes abuse their powers and act as corporate entities. Season 5 brought the flagship series of The Boys to an end, but the world will live on in Prime Video's next spin-off prequel, Vought Rising.

The Boys established that not all supes are created equal, with Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher among the most powerful. Butcher began as a normal human, prompting him and the boys to seek other, more powerful supes who might challenge Homelander. But once Butcher leveled the playing field by taking Compound V himself, he became one of the deadliest of them all, with his powers allowing him to unleash octopus-like tendrils from within his body that were capable of tearing people apart.

That said, even Butcher's powers will be rivaled by those of some of the supes appearing in Vought Rising, as the Prime Video series delves into the first generation of Vought's heroes in the 1950s.

Superhero themes have long been associated with soaring brass, triumphant melodies, and music designed to make larger-than-life heroes feel even bigger. But several composers behind the next wave of DC and Marvel projects are taking a different approach.

During a composer roundtable at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, in which The Direct was present, Supergirl composer Claudia Sarne, VisionQuest composer Mick Giacchino, and Spider-Noir composers Kris Bowers and Michael Dean Parsons discussed finding the musical identities of their respective heroes. Rather than beginning with the superhero, each composer found themselves looking toward the complicated and often broken person underneath the costume.

Netflix's Stranger Things came to an end in 2025, but several cast members would be willing to reprise their roles given the opportunity. The sci-fi series created by the Duffer Brothers began in 2016 and became a global phenomenon in the following decade, turning its young cast members into household names. Netflix quickly turned Stranger Things into a franchise with spin-offs and prequels, but the flagship show came to a firm conclusion with the end off Season 5.

Knowing how the story ends hasn't prevented some of Stranger Things' leads from wanting to return to their roles. The series built a beloved cast featuring three generations of actors in its kids, teens, and adults bubbles, and many have gone on to do significant things with the popularity Stranger Things has given them.

While Netflix hasn't confirmed any sort of live-action sequel or prequel for Stranger Things involving the same characters, the Duffer Brothers have supposedly had an idea for a spin-off. Netflix is also investing in the Stranger Things franchise, so there's certainly a possibility the streamer would want to capitalize on the existing cast for future projects. But which of them would be willing to return?

Many major villains from Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter movies will be brought to life through new actors in HBO's serialized reboot. Fifteen years after Radcliffe's time as the boy wizard ended, Warner Bros. is moving forward with a new adaptation of the Harry Potter novel series, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone coming out on Christmas Day 2026. This will allow not only the story's heroes to shine in a new light, but also their powerful enemies.

HBO Max cast eight major villains from Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter movies and author J.K. Rowling's original books for the new Harry Potter series. One of the most notable across the story's entire run is Draco Malfoy, Harry's biggest rival from Hogwarts' Slytherin house. Relentlessly bullying Harry and fighting him over the years, Malfoy is always a thorn in the titular hero's side, although more tragic parts of his story are revealed later. Newcomer Lox Pratt will play the role in the new show, after Tom Felton initially played Draco in the first eight movies.

It's officially the end of an era for Brianne Howey's Georgia in Ginny and Georgia Season 4 (but it's the best thing that will happen to the character). Georgia Miller has been portrayed as the ultimate survivor across the first three seasons of the hit Netflix series. She arrived in Wellsbury as a young single mother of two, Ginny and Austin, determined to reinvent their lives and escape a lifetime of instability. Georgia managed to win over the town's mayor, Paul Randolph, and eventually became his wife. While cracks started to emerge in Season 2, such as past secrets and the return of Ginny and Austin's biological father, she still fought harder to protect her image. 

However, Ginny and Georgia Season 3 fully destroyed Georgia's image after she faced a high-stakes murder trial after being accused of the death of Tom Fuller (a crime she committed out of goodwill in saving his wife, Cynthia). While she escaped jail time, Georgia had to endure the fact that her kids had started to mirror her darkest survival tactics after Austin lied on the stand as a key witness to save her. The mounting pressure of trying to change was further complicated by her shocking pregnancy twist at the end of Season 3.

Outer Banks Season 5 revealed that the core Pogues remain in their late teens, but their adventures and the sheer emotional weight they have endured have made them feel far older than their years. The fifth and final season of the trending Netflix series picks up immediately after the devastating Season 4 finale, where one of their own, JJ (Rudy Pankow), died at the hands of his own father, Chandler Groff. Outer Banks Season 5 focused on the Pogues' quest for revenge against Groff, with Kiara spearheading the charge, and their adventure in trying to retrieve the Blue Crown from him. 

Outer Banks Season 5 immediately picks up from the end of Season 4, meaning the characters' ages should largely remain the same. Filming for the final season took place from June to December 2025, and this noteworthy detail should give fans a solid idea of how old the actors were during production and by the time the series premieres on Netflix.

Reacher revealed whether Lila Hoth (Agnez Mo) killed Ben Merrick in Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow, the book Season 4 is based on. Reacher's latest season introduced a brand-new conflict for Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher as he gets intertwined in a massive conspiracy after a chance encounter on a subway train with a distressed woman named Anna Merrick, a Pentagon employee who killed herself because she may be harboring government secrets. The first three episodes of Reacher Season 4 revealed that Anna is connected to a missing flash drive containing highly sensitive information involving Congressman John Sampson. 

Reacher was drawn to this conflict, leading him to an encounter with Lila Hoth. Lila initially presented herself as a friend and love interest to Reacher, a damsel in distress targeted by dangerous men for her knowledge of the conspiracy. However, a huge twist involving Lila was unraveled in Reacher Season 4, Episode 4.

Disney officially brought back one of its biggest Disney Channel fantasy sitcom shows of all time in 2024, but with the recent release of its third season, the revival (and sequel) to the original show has come to an end. Over the past decade, Disney has spent a lot of time and resources bringing back different TV shows from the 2000s and early 2010s in hopes that they could resonate with modern audiences the same way the original shows did with youngsters back in the day. For example, since 2014, the House of Mouse has released sitcom titles like Girl Meets World (a revival of Boy Meets World), Raven's Home (a revival of That's So Raven), Phineas & Ferb (a continuation of the main series), and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (a revival of The Proud Family.

However, in 2024, Disney also brought back one of its most successful Disney Channel fantasy series that originally premiered in 2007 — Wizards of Waverly Place. Specifically, Disney released the first season of the revival (which also served as a sequel to the original show), titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, with Season 2 following in 2025, and Season 3 in 2026.

With the release of Season 3, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has officially come to a close, marking the end of the Wizards of Waverly Place storyline and franchise, at least for now. 

Fallout Season 3 received a major casting update that could provide a hint at what to expect when it returns on Prime Video. At the end of Fallout Season 2, the wasteland was left in a state of escalating chaos with lingering story threads bound to be answered when it returns for Season 3. Some of the storylines include Hank wiping his own memories to protect deeper secrets; The Ghoul finally reaching the cryogenic vaults of his wife and daughter, only to find them empty; and Lucy and Maximus's reunion in New Vegas, which sets the stage for bigger adventures. These unresolved threads demand a major shake-up in Fallout's cast as the storyline grows heading into its highly anticipated third season. 

Annabel O'Hagan (Stephanie "Steph" Harper) and Dave Register (Chet) have been promoted to series regulars for Fallout Season 3, signaling the pair's major roles that align with their evolution in the past two seasons. 

Steph's arc in the live-action Fallout series is perhaps one of the most compelling evolutions in the show's cast. She began as a pregnant Vault 33 resident to becoming the Overseer of Vault 32. In Season 2, it was revealed that she had been Hank's wife before the war and had deep ties to the Enclave, making her promotion fitting for the story. 

Apple TV's Lucky just finished its Season 1 run with quite the eventful finale, one that led to the death of two major characters and the betrayal of many more. The show follows Anya Taylor-Joy's titular character, a con artist who finds herself on the run from William Fichtner's Wayne (and Annette Bening's Priscilla) after she accidentally inherits $10 million in stolen money.

The Season 1 finale saw it all come to a head, as Lucky was forced into a sting operation under Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor's Agent Billie Rand. As one would guess, it didn't go smoothly. In a matter of minutes, the entire ruse was laid bare, with chaos ensuing shortly thereafter.

Fitchner's Wayne was confident that this was going to go his way, nearly killing Lucky and her father, John Armstrong (played by Timothy Olyphant from The Mandalorian). However, his former partner, Priscilla, decided to turn the tables, shooting him in the chest instead. Wayne's mole, AD Peter Kershaw (Eric Lange), didn't fare much better, thanks to Agent Billie Rand's last-minute thinking.

The Walking Dead universe's frontman confirmed the franchise's expansion plans to The Direct, noting a slower rollout for future spin-offs than before. 

While The Walking Dead only had one spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, through most of its 11-season run, AMC succeeded the series with a plethora of shows that have sent the beloved cast around the world. The post-apocalyptic hit universe continued with Daryl and Carol's European adventures in Daryl Dixon, Maggie and Negan's New York saga in Dead City, and the next chapter in Rick and Michonne's story in a limited series, The Ones Who Live. Tales of the Walking Dead also expanded the world in a six-episode anthology series, which isn't expected to return for Season 2 at the time of writing. 

The franchise's recent acceleration means that it has already released 14 seasons of TV in the 2020s, double the seven in its first six years. 

Hey Arnold! writer Joe Purdy addressed the possibility of a revival of the hit animated Nickelodeon show. Created by Craig Bartlett, Hey Arnold! chronicled the everyday adventures of fourth-grader Arnold Shortman as he navigated friendship, family, and the chaos of the fictional city of Hillwood. The series premiered on Nickelodeon on October 7, 1996, and ran for five seasons and 100 episodes before concluding its run on June 8, 2004. In 2017, Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie delivered the long-awaited closure fans had sought for more than a decade.

During an exclusive interview with The Direct at MultiCon 2026, Hey Arnold! writer and producer Joe Purdy was asked if there have been recent conversations about reviving the Nickelodeon series. Purdy confirmed that discussions are "absolutely" happening amongst decision-makers at Paramount, the owner of Nickelodeon:

"Absolutely. Yes, yes, yes. There is an ever-changing environment of the business and people who are making decisions. It's the cliche story... But be sure we are [having conversations]."

Crunchyroll is holding Solo Leveling Season 3 under lock and key until this major event. Aniplex and A-1 Pictures launched the anime in January 2024, with a 12-episode first season tracking Sung Jinwoo's climb from the weakest hunter alive to a superpowered sorcerer who summons the dead. Season 2, titled Arise from the Shadow, followed in January 2025 with 13 more episodes. Since the source webcomic runs 179 chapters, producers have mapped out multiple seasons (up to six), and Season 3 is already confirmed under development.

At Anime Expo 2026, Crunchyroll and Aniplex used their showcase to reveal the real Season 3 holdup: a theatrical film called Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. The movie picks up immediately where Season 2 left off and tells an original story that bridges directly into Season 3, diving into the psychological toll of Jinwoo's transformation and the deeper mysteries behind the System itself.

Capitalizing on a popular anime with a wide theatrical release has become more than just a trend. Leading the recent surge is the Demon Slayer franchise, whose 2025 film Infinity Castle earned $136.9 million in the US alone.

Several divisive characters are set to appear in The Last of Us Season 3, which adapts Naughty Dog's video game franchise. So far, the HBO TV adaptation has covered the entirety of the first game and half of The Last of Us Part II, leaving Season 3 open to the remainder of Part II. The world of The Last of Us has not been without controversy, particularly surrounding some of its characters. Several of these figures will be featured in HBO's The Last of Us Season 3 when it begins airing in 2027.

The Last of Us Season 1 focused on the harrowing journey of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they traveled across post-apocalyptic America to try and find a cure for the cordyceps virus that has infected the world. Season 2 picked up the story five years later, following Ellie on a revenge quest to Seattle, which is filled with dangerous factions at war.

It's expected that Season 3 of The Last of Us will be the final season, airing on both HBO and streaming on HBO Max. It will likely cover the second half of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II and switch the story to Abby's (Kaitlyn Dever) perspective. Along with a major casting shakeup on The Last of Us Season 3, several polarizing characters are set to make their return in the upcoming season.

HBO's Harry Potter show officially revealed a brand new lightning scar. Fans of the Harry Potter franchise will be well aware that the scar imprinted on the Boy Who Lived's forehead is one of its most iconic pieces of imagery. The scar became the stuff of legend in the Wizarding World after it was left on a baby Harry when Lord Voldemort tried and failed to murder him using the Avada Kedavra killing curse, only for it to deflect back at him due to his mother's protective magic.

The Harry Potter franchise is currently hyping up the annual Back to Hogwarts event, which takes place on September 1, the day that students famously return to the castle in the Wizarding World. This year, fans will be treated to a new glimpse of HBO's Harry Potter Season 1 on the special day, along with other festivities, including the Platform 9 3/4 fan experience in London.

The official announcement for the Back to Hogwarts event was notably branded with a new rendition of Harry Potter's famous lightning scar for the HBO show. The redesigned bolt is clearly distinct from Daniel Radcliffe's from the eight original Harry Potter movies, signaling that Dominic McLaughlin's will be vastly different.
