Agatha Harkness WandaVision

Warning - This article contains spoilers for WandaVision.

WandaVision was a fresh look at what an MCU project could be moving forward. Not only was this series the first one on Disney+ led by Marvel Studios, but it had a unique twist of mostly happening within an ever-changing sitcom storyline. As The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will feel more familial, WandaVision was a risk that introduced fans to new themes and characters.

One of the most prominent characters introduced was Kathryn Hahn's Agnes aka Agatha Harkness. Well before fans knew that it was 'Agatha All Along,' Hahn became a fan favorite as the nosy neighbor and companion of Wanda Maximoff.

When her true identity was revealed as being a witch who has lived for hundreds of years, the fandom only seemed to grow. Her power and knowledge of the Mystic Arts could make her part of the MCU moving forward.

While how Agatha is left in WandaVision leaves the possibility open, Hahn responded to the possibility of her return...

AGATHA HARKNESS WILL RETURN IN...?

Kathryn Hahn recently chatted with The New York Times, where she was asked directly if fans can expect to see Agatha return to the MCU. Hahn responded, "I have no idea. They keep it really tight." Despite her uncertainty, Hahn did express how much she enjoyed playing the character, saying that she would want another opportunity to play the MCU witch: "Now that I have a taste of it, I’m like, ahh. I really, really love it."

The Times later asked her if the memes of her as Agnes/Agatha have helped her career. Hahn gave "kudos to whoever wrote that:"

"My friends and I were laughing because, a million years ago, on my IMDb page, it said, Kathryn Hahn, known for her over-the-top facial expressions. And we were like, whoever wrote that has been playing a real long game. How could they have ever known, years later, that that was the meme that was going to come out? I was like, kudos to whoever wrote that."

AGATHA STUCK AS AGNES

It is pivotal to remember the conversation Wanda and Agatha have before she was put back in her Agnes character. Agatha pleads, "You have no idea what you've unleashed. You're gonna need me." Wanda calmly replies, "If I do, I know where to find you."

While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel, this seemed like a clear setup for the character to return sometime down the road. Perhaps in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madnessthere's a power struggle between the Sorcerer Supreme and the Scarlet Witch. With these two at odds, Wanda could venture back to Westview and ask Agatha for advice.

As the MCU does pick and choose aspects of the comic books it uses, one of the components that could be explored is the master and apprentice relationship between Agatha and Wanda. As the Scarlet Witch seemingly sucked all the magical power out of Agatha, she's physically a non-threat. It's hard to imagine after being put back in a mental trance that Agatha would be happy to see Wanda, but she is completely at the will of the Scarlet Witch.

Of course, there's a bevy of other ways for Kathryn Hahn to return to the MCU, but the way WandaVision ended looked like there's a good chance we do see her return.

Elizabeth Olsen returns as the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness on March 25, 2022.
