The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to return in grand fashion with the Disney+ release of WandaVision in January, kicking off ten new movies and shows coming in 2021. While all of these releases arrive one after the other, as many as twelve new projects are in the works for 2022, most of which are in pre-production at the moment.
One of the first to start shooing in 2021 will be Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth solo adventure for the God of Thunder. While the cast isn’t quite at Spider-Man 3 levels of packed, plenty of heroes will be suiting up next to Chris Hemsworth, including Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
Chris Pratt has even been confirmed to join the party as Star-Lord, sparking rumors that the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy would come along for the ride. A new social media post may give more credence to this rumor, straight from the Land Down Under.
In a new post on her Instagram account, Mantis actress Pom Klementieff posted that she has landed in Sydney, Australia, where the shoot for Thor: Love and Thunder is set to take place.
The movie’s director, Taika Waititi, seemed to confirm that she will be taking part in the shoot with the expectedly hilarious comment “hurry up.”
Taika Waititi confirmed that 'Thor: Love and Thunder' only has "four weeks" left of filming while also praising the MCU movie as something that “might be the best Marvel film ever.”
Russell Crowe confirmed that he will play Zeus in 'Thor: Love and Thunder.'
Christian Bale was confirmed to be sport a bald look for 'Thor: Love and Thunder,' seemingly indicating that the actor might actually be in makeup as Gorr the God Butcher instead of CGI.
WHAT THIS MEANS
The extent of Chris Pratt’s role in Thor: Love and Thunder hasn’t been revealed, but his inclusion has sparked questions regarding appearances for the rest of his Guardians of the Galaxy teammates for the last few weeks. With Pom Klementieff now seemingly confirmed to join the party alongside Star-Lord, it should only be a matter of time before the rest of the team is confirmed in some capacity.
The Guardians were last seen with Thor on board the Benetar at the end of Avengers: Endgame traveling to an unknown destination, and their own solo film isn’t set to begin shooting until later into 2021. Groot actor Vin Diesel was seen arriving in Australia in November, which makes for half of the a-holes team that have landed down under. Hopefully news confirming the other half's inclusion in this movie will come soon as they team up with the Asgardians, Jane Foster, and Korg against Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to begin shooting next month and will release on May 6, 2022.
