There's plenty of Marvel content coming down the pipe in 2021, but in 2022 fans will have Thor: Love and Thunder to look forward to. The fourth installment for Chris Hemsworth's Thor series is currently filming in Sydney, Australia.
Cast members including Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson have been spotted on set and around Sydney. It even looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy will be making an appearance in the film.
The large-scale production has been hard to hide and set photos have already shown off Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt in costume as Thor and Star-Lord. Photos from the production have also raised some questions, such as what is a goat doing on set? And is Thor's hammer Mjolnir making a return?
Now, there are more set photos to add to the mystery...
LOVE AND THUNDER IS SET FOR BIG THINGS
The photos depict a stage with a painted background and red curtains, indicating that Thor 4 could include another (New) Asgard play like the one shown at the beginning of Thor Ragnarök.
Fans will recall how, after Chris Hemsworth's Thor comes back to Asgard in the opening scenes of Ragnarök, an Asgardian play is being performed in tribute to Tom Hiddleston's Loki, one that's been organized by an Odin-disguised Loki.
IS THOR 4 BUILDING ON WHAT CAME BEFORE?
This set is still under construction, so it's hard to know what exactly is being filmed here. It's possible, being a clifftop location, that this could be the set of New Asgard. For Avengers: Endgame filming for New Asgard took place in Scotland, but this location could easily be used as a replacement.
If that's the case, then it looks like New Asgard is getting some significant upgrades. The images show towering white walls with golden patterns, similar to the architecture from Asgard in the previous Thor movies. Potentially the Asgardians have been working on reintegrating the style of their homeworld into their new home on Earth.
The pictures also point to the possible return of the theater structure from Thor Ragnarok, in which Loki, while disguised as Odin, was putting on theatrical productions of his life. Matt Damon notably appeared in that scene and with his rumored casting in Thor 4, this could stage the return for his character. Taika Waititi is also the director of both films so it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
