With The Mandalorian Season 2 now officially over and done with, fans are already looking to the future of the Star Wars franchise.
That is not to say that audiences aren't still collecting their thoughts about the jawdropping season finale, which included some shocking revelations and even more surprising character cameos. "The Rescue" even featured a post-credits scene, announcing a brand new show: The Book of Boba Fett. Fans will be pleased to know that the creatives behind The Mandalorian will be heading the series, specifically Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and, the most recent addition of Robert Rodriguez.
Nevertheless, the focus is now on The Mandalorian's third season, specifically on how it will continue the story and when fans can see it unfold. Creator Jon Favreau gave a brief update about the series' production, which will take place following filming of The Book of Boba Fett.
It was unknown when The Mandalorian would return, but a new piece of information could imply that fans will have to wait just a bit longer to see the next chapter in Mando and Grogu's story...
In a recent tweet, Julia Alexander of The Verge posted a list of dates from a preview kit for Disney+'s upcoming 2021 releases. While the dates list several key Marvel and Star Wars series set to be released in 2021 (such as The Book of Boba Fett and Star Wars: The Bad Batch), it notably omits The Mandalorian Season 3.
This seemingly confirms that The Mandalorian's third season will be releasing on the streaming service in 2022, or later.
The full tweet, with the list of dates, can be viewed below:

WHAT THIS MEANS
The fact that The Mandalorian was left off of this official list of dates does seem to indicate that the third season will be getting a 2022 release window. While this may be disappointing to fans due to an extended wait, a potential back-to-back production with The Book of Boba Fett does suggest that Season 3 should follow soon after Boba Fett's solo series. While this is pure speculation, it is likely that a third season of The Mandalorian would reasonably release in the first or second quarter of 2022 at the latest.
This decision makes financial sense, as it results in Disney+ subscribers continuously renewing their subscription over a longer period of time. While it would have been exciting for fans to get two Star Wars shows running simultaneously, this would not have been as lucrative as a staggered release for the two series. Lucasfilm is well-aware of the success of The Mandalorian, so will be quite happy to make fans wait if it means greater profits down the line. Let's just hope that the long wait is more than worth it.
From this, it seems that The Mandalorian Season 3 will be arriving on Disney+ in 2022.
