Warning — This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 2

After the season finale of The Mandalorian Season 2, there is still so much we do not know about lead antagonist Moff Gideon . He was defeated by Din Djarin in the highly-anticipated Beskar spear vs. Darksaber duel, but there wasn't much of a conclusion for the character. He is left defeated and likely heading with Cara Dune to be placed in some form of New Republic custody.

He seems pleased with what he was able to extract from Grogu, but after what seems like a suicide attempt, Gideon's schemes may be coming to a close. After losing the darksaber and Grogu, what else is there for him to live for? Well, the actor who plays him, Giancarlo Esposito may have just given us our first clue.

NEWS

Esposito recently sat down with Esquire , where he spoke about the possibility of his appearance in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off series. The outlet asked him directly if he'd be interested in appearing as Moff Gideon in any of these shows.

"The answer is, yes, I would be interested in that if there was enough material and storyline to indulge that," he says. "But first I want to be true to this project."

Esposito confirmed that there is a future for Gideon in The Mandalorian and possibly in another upcoming Disney+ series.

"In some ways, history repeats itself. I think Moff Gideon is very elusive and has had a piece in every part of the Empire. I think you'll start to see that and it'll be a real clue when you see the finale."

WHAT THIS MEANS

With recent news point to upcoming spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett sharing the same creative team with The Mandalorian , it is safe to assume that some characters from The Mandalorian will be featured in the Boba Fett show. It is also a safe assumption that characters we've already seen will appear in other upcoming Disney+ shows Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic . This seems to be the direction they're headed primarily due to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announcing that Rangers and Ahsoka will culminate in an “event story” at Disney's recent Investor Day. As these are both direct spin-offs from Mandalorian, we can assume all of these projects will be connected.

Moff Gideon has been portrayed as a devoted follower of the Empire, with foggy intentions. Many have speculated that he wants Grogu's midichlorian-filled blood to help one day resurrect Emporer Palpatine. Another theory is that he wanted it for his own Force-filled soldier, similar to how he utilized the Dark Troopers ( before Luke Skywalker destroyed them all ).

With Esposito saying Gideon "has had a piece in every part of the Empire" it is safe to expect more connections to be made to the original trilogy. With Grand Admiral Thrawn expected to appear in Ahsoka , could we see a diabolical team-up between these two villains down the road? It's more than possible, as Esposito has already stated the Gideon will have a more prominent role in the series' third season.
