A new report points to when fans of that galaxy far, far away should expect the title announcement for Lucasfilm's next Star Wars movie.
Currently, Lucasfilm has two untitled Star Wars films set to release on December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027, with director Taika Waititi's and Ms. Marvel writer Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's respective films as the top candidates
Despite recent writer shakeups and ongoing uncertainty, it seems that Lucasfilm is staying on target to release its 2025 film and reveal its anticipated title.
When to Expect the Title of the Next Star Wars Movie
As reported by Variety, the title of the first Star Wars movie since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, as well as additional details, is expected to be announced at Star Wars Celebration in April.
Since screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have left the project, reports now claim Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight will pen the film which is still being directed by Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
The 2025 film will likely be announced at Star Wars Celebration's Lucasfilm Studios Showcase panel on Friday, April 7.
Guessing the New Star Movie Title
Earlier this month, a report claimed Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's film was Lucasfilm's next Star Wars movie and the one set to release in 2025.
That same source also reported that the film already has talent attached and a script that's "by all accounts, done."
This is somewhat puzzling given writer Steven Knight being brought on board; but while Damon Lindelof has yet to fully explain his departure, the screenwriter did comment, saying, "If [the film] can't be great, it shouldn't exist."
The question now is whether Star Wars brought Knight aboard to change the script and keep it as is.
Regardless, Lindelof's no vote of confidence doesn't bode well for the project's current state or fan anticipation upon its announcement.
However, if Lucasfilm is committed to the release slot, and the basis of the script is there along with its talent, it makes sense for Lucasfilm to reveal its title at Celebration in London.
As to what that title will be - and if it will change between now and Celebration - is anyone's guess.
The one hint fans have to go on is reports that the film is set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and could include returning characters.
It will be interesting to see if any other news surfaces concerning this 2025 film between now and April 7.
