Rose Tico has been a relatively controversial character since her introduction in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Kelly Marie Tran was brought in to portray the character, but was unfortunately subjected to online harassment. The backlash led to a much reduced role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , which received its own set of criticism.

Tran has bounced back from this, though, addressing the issue head-on in a New York Times article . She has seen career success since then too, as she was announced as one of the lead roles in the upcoming animated film Raya and the Last Dragon and

Fellow Star Wars co-star John Boyega expressed his frustration with the handling of his and Tran's characters by Disney, saying that the company did not know what to do with Finn and Rose throughout the trilogy.

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu was one of many who wanted more from the character, even going on to voice his interest in wanting to develop a Disney+ series focused on Rose Tico.

Kelly Marie Tran has now commented on this idea, sharing her thoughts on whether she would be interested in returning to the character...

NEWS

In an interview with Collider , Kelly Marie Tran responded to questions regarding whether she would be interested in reprising her role as Rose Tico.

After being asked about the possibility of reprising the role of Rose Tico in a Jon M. Chu-led Disney+ series, Tran said:

He’s so cool. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. It’s so strange. I had so much fun being in that world but I feel like the pieces would have to fall into a perfect little puzzle and everything would have to feel like it’s the right time and the right moment and the right story, like with any other project. But I don’t know.

The interviewer then stated that Rose is a character that has " more story to tell," to which Tran agreed:

Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I think there are a lot of characters in that universe that we have yet to hear enough about.

WHAT THIS MEANS

From the sounds of it, Kelly Marie Tran is unsure about returning to Rose Tico any time soon. Tran notes that the circumstances would have to be "perfect" for her to reprise her role, and that it would need to be the "right story."

This is most likely in reference to her very limited role in The Rise of Skywalker, which was much smaller than in the previous installment. A scene featuring a conversation between Rose and Rey was also seemingly cut, reducing her role even further. For Tran to return to the role, it appears that it would be extremely necessary for Lucasfilm and Disney to give a significant and worthy role for Rose Tico in the hypothetical series.

Tran also highlights that there are a lot of Star Wars characters that "we have yet to hear enough about." Many new characters have been introduced, but John Boyega's Finn has much more untapped potential to explore. Finn's role was greatly diminished as the sequel trilogy progressed, consistently being given less to do. Colin Trevorrow's original story for Episode XI had Finn leading a First Order uprising, which seemed like a fitting conclusion for the character's trilogy-long arc. Hopefully Lucasfilm will see the potential in these characters and provide them with future stories that is befitting of their worth.

Whether Kelly Marie Tran will reprise her role as Rose Tico remains to be seen, but she will undoubtedly continue to do great things regardless.
