2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was all about the mission to steal the Death Star plans that fans first learned about in the opening crawl to 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope . At the forefront of this deadly mission was Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones.

Erso rallied the Rebel Alliance to launch an attack on the Imperial Archives on the planet Scarif, where the Death Star plans were being held. And while the mission was ultimately a success, the casualties were great. Among the dead was Jyn, as she was on Scarif as the Death Star fired upon the planet.

Jyn Erso may have been killed in action in the Star Wars galaxy but that hasn't stopped fans from dreaming up scenarios in which the character could return. And now it appears that Felcity Jones herself has similar ideas.

NEWS

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if Jyn Erso could make a comeback in a future Star Wars project, Felicity Jones offered the following:

I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe [laughs]. So, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.

THR also pointed out that Jones has another Star Wars film on her contract with Disney. When asked if she'd like to do a Rogue One sequel or spinoff, Jones responded:

I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe with which there are many it seems.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Anybody who has seen Rogue One knows that Jyn Erso is dead. No one could have survived being on a planet that was blasted by the Death Star's superlaser.

That being said, Star Wars has something of a history with bringing back characters who were previously presumed dead. Look no further than 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in which the evil Emperor Palpatine was ressurrected using cloning.

Also applicable is Ahsoka Tano who was thought to have been killed by Darth Vader in a pitched lightsaber duel. She was actually plucked out of time by Ezra Bridger in the closing episodes of Star Wars Rebels . Ahsoka is alive and well in the post- Return of the Jedi era and is confirmed to appear in the current season of The Mandalorian .

It would be cool to see Jyn Erso return in some form. After all, she's a compelling character portrayed by a great actress. However, bringing her back would serve to cheapen her sacrifice in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story . Perhaps it would be best to leave her triumphant sacrifice alone.
