Even with the MCU delivering its biggest year of content ever in 2021, all fans are talking about is the game-changing events of December's Spider-Man: No Way Home. With Tom Holland excelling in his third MCU solo movie alongside Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Men (and a handful of their villains, too), Marvel and Sony delivered some of the biggest moments in any comic-book movie ever. And because of this, 2022 kicks off a new fan campaign around another Spider-Man movie.

While Maguire and Garfield were at the center of rumors for months after their past villains were confirmed for inclusion in the MCU threequel, seeing the two former Spider-Men on screen was something that helped make No Way Home the hit adventure of a lifetime.

Tom Holland has shared how incredible it was to work with both of the former Spider-Men, and excitingly, fans are crying out to see more of the wall-crawling veterans in the future.

Rumors are already pointing to Sony being interested in bringing Garfield back to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which comes after fan cries for the movie to be made following No Way Home's success.

Now, it appears that fans have their hearts set on Maguire getting a chance to continue his own story, too.

Fans Campaign for Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4

Over the past few weeks, Spider-Man fans have taken to Twitter to plan a widespread promotion on January 5 for a desired Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire.

The first of these messages came from Twitter user @REAL_EARTH_9811, pushing fans to spread the word about making the movie trend along with an image of Maguire's Spidey:

"On January 5th we trend #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4 worldwide!"

The same user followed that tweet with a meme teasing the idea of a Logan-syle Spider-Man film that features Maguire's Peter Parker.

The tweet shared a plea to make it similar to Hugh Jackman's last outing as Wolverine by not tying it into any other universe and making it "rough, beautiful, and emotional" as a way to send the hero off the proper way:

@zacksnyder_fan asked for the movie as well and wants director Sam Raimi to complete his work after directing the original Spider-Man trilogy:

"I want Spider-Man 4 with Sam Raimi in full control. I know you won't disappoint fans, Sony. #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4"

@TheSenate981379 expressed gratitude for Marvel and Sony bringing Maguire back into No Way Home while saying that this is the "time to officially end" his original story:

"I'm grateful that Marvel brought back Tobey Maguire but it's time to officially end his amazing story. #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4"

@fanvax_ shared some caution toward Spider-Man 4 being made, although they support the idea of it happening.

The Twitter user wants a new Maguire-led film "handled with extreme care" along with a true interest in progressing the former Spidey's story while also sharing hope that Sam Raimi would return to direct it:

"People keep demanding Spider-Man 4 but tbh if it’s not handled with extreme care and genuine interest in adding something to the original trilogy I don’t wanna see it. Don’t make it just to make it. I think if Sam wants to come back to direct that’d be awesome, but if not keep it."

@WilliamD1123 wasn't as optimistic about Spider-Man 4 becoming a reality. The Twitter user hinted that Sony would likely ignore cries for this movie and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in favor of making "6 Morbius films" before putting those other films into development:

"Sony will see the fans asking for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4 and will green light 6 Morbius films and a Big Wheel trilogy"

Will Spider-Man 4 Really Happen?

Over the last few years, the movie industry has seen its fair share of fan cries for movies such as this. Less than a year ago, one of those wishes came true when Zack Snyder's Justice League began streaming as an HBO Max exclusive, and the cries for Spider-Man 4 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 appear to be just as loud as the ones from DC's corner of the fandom.

The big question now is whether Sony will look seriously into these fan demands and what kind of movie could actually come to life with the resources at hand.

Sam Raimi is now fully ingrained in the superhero world once again with his work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releasing this Spring, and he shared support for the second No Way Home trailer in November. The threequel also brought in Maguire for his first live-action performance in any movie since 2014, although it's unclear if that will become a trend or stay a one-time thing.

Whether Maguire's Spider-Man 4 comes to life is a mystery, particularly with Sony already heavily developing other Spidey-based frachises like Tom Hardy's Venom, Jared Leto's Morbius, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's upcoming Kraven the Hunter solo movie. Regardless, it's clear that the original Spider-Man's return is a huge moment in comic book movie history - one that's making fans want more in a hurry.
