Marvel Studios is in the final stages of the promotional tour for WandaVision , which will arrive on January 15 as the first new property of the MCU's expansive Phase 4. The team behind the MCU's first Disney+ series has released new material nearly every day over the past few weeks including TV spots with fresh clips from the show and interviews with the cast and crew teasing what's coming.
The hype is rising even higher thanks to the show's first clip releasing on Jimmy Kimmel Live , showing Wanda and Vision scaring the daylights out of each other in likely the pilot episode. This trend will likely continue over the next few days before the first episode begins streaming on Disney+, kicking off a year where nearly every week of 2021 will be filled with new MCU content.
While this series is set squarely within the MCU, a new update to the show's page on Disney+ is signaling a possible change of pace from the rest its companions in the franchise.
NEWS
The official Disney+ page for WandaVision indicates that the series will be rated TV-PG in the United States.
This will be the first rating of its kind in the MCU, considering every movie released to date has been rated PG-13 (the relative television equivalent of PG-13 is TV-14).
No content descriptors are currently provided for WandaVision's TV-PG rating.
WHAT THIS MEANS
This is an intriguing rating for WandaVision considering the MCU's consistent history with ratings over its first dozen years. Even when comparing it to Disney's other franchises, many episodes of The Mandalorian from the Star Wars universe are rated TV-14 on Disney+, which matches up accordingly with its mostly PG-13 rated counterparts in the Skywalker Saga.
There is no indication yet as to why WandaVision earned this rating, and it likely won't be clear until the show premieres in full starting next week. It does seem like at least the first few episodes of the show will be a little tamer than usual considering the style of the eras the show is emulating. The TV-PG rating doesn't guarantee that WandaVision will be drastically different in this regard from the rest of the MCU, but it will certainly be something to keep an eye on as the series debuts more episodes over the next couple of months.
WandaVision will debut on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
