Marvel Studios Announces Its Longest Movie Of All Time

Marvel Studios is about to release its longest movie of all time next month.

Seven years later, the MCU will topple its movie runtime record. There's no denying that many fans have grown increasingly runtime-focused in recent years, namely since Avengers: Endgame broke the MCU mold by clocking in just over three hours. That runtime has set expectations high for the Marvel Studios' next Avengers blockbusters, Doomsday and Secret Wars, to match or exceed that mark. But before the Phase 6 crossovers land on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, Marvel Studios is re-releasing Avengers: Endgame under a new title on September 25 to better set the stage for its successor.

Avengers: Endgame Encore has been listed by AMC Theaters with a runtime of 3 hours, 5 minutes. The much-anticipated re-release of Marvel Studios' longest and highest-grossing movie ever lands on September 25, with a runtime 4 minutes longer than the original cut, adding bonus footage to set up Avengers: Doomsday.

Cryptic HD Quality previously weighed in on the Encore release, stating that it will have a "new intro, new bonus scenes, and the ending sequence will lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday." The scooper also called for people to "take it with a grain of salt" that it may have a runtime "seven minutes longer" than the original release, although the final result is only extended by four minutes.

Despite earlier rumors that Avengers: Doomsday may be three hours long, giving it a chance to beat Endgame's runtime as the longest MCU movie, more recent reporting puts it a little lower. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Phase 6 blockbuster now sits at 2 hours, 45 minutes, placing it just behind Endgame's two releases (although the final cut runtime may not be set until later in the year).

  1. Avengers: Endgame Encore - 3 hours, 5 minutes
  2. Avengers: Endgame - 3 hours, 1 minute
  3. Avengers: Doomsday - 2 hours, 45 minutes (TBC)
  4. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - 2 hours, 41 minutes
  5. Eternals - 2 hours, 36 minutes
  6. Avengers: Infinity War - 2 hours, 29 minutes
  7. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - 2 hours, 29 minutes
  8. Spider-Man: No Way Home - 2 hours, 28 minutes
  9. Captain America: Civil War - 2 hours, 27 minutes
  10. Spider-Man: Brand New Day - 2 hours, 24 minutes.

When it comes to the crown for the longest MCU project overall, that, of course, falls on the Disney+ side of things and goes to Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, as its nine episodes total to 7 hours, 34 minutes, more than double Endgame Encore.

What Is Changing in Avengers: Endgame Encore's Release?

For the most part, fans should look forward to Avengers: Endgame Encore as an opportunity to rewatch Marvel Studios' greatest theatrical experience yet on the big screen once more and build anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday. However, it seems Marvel Studios is packing in just a few minutes of bonus surprises that likely won't be essential viewing for Doomsday, but may enhance the experience.

Marvel Studios' goal with Endgame Encore may be to paint a picture of what the Infinity Saga flick might have looked like if Doomsday was always planned. Most of that heavy-lifting will probably happen after the credits, perhaps revealing the interaction between Loki and Steve Rogers from Doomsday's trailer.

Scooper Daniel Richtman reported that Gwyneth Paltrow had filmed new scenes as Pepper Potts set at Tony Stark's funeral (via Cosmic Marvel). Unless Doomsday has some flashbacks to Iron Man's heartfelt memoriam, it's entirely possible that the Endgame Encore will expand on that moment with a line or two of dialogue that ominously hints that the Avengers aren't done and another threat is coming.
