After multiple delays, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will finally arrive in theaters on September 3, 2021, and it will serve as the first Phase 4 entry that will receive an exclusive theatrical release.
The film is set to introduce Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience) as the MCU's Master of Kung-Fu while also featuring the debut of the real Mandarin who will be played by Tony Leung. Alongside Liu and Leung, Shang-Chi will also banner a stacked Asian ensemble, including the likes of Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Meng'er Zhang, Ronny Chieng, and Doctor Strange's Benedict Wong.
With the film's release inching closer, marketing has ramped up for Shang-Chi. A good chunk of promotion is mainly focused on establishing the film's storyline which revolves around the father-son dynamic of Liu's MCU hero and the Mandarin.
In addition, it was also established that the plot would include a martial arts tournament that is expected to feature a plethora of cameos which already includes The Incredible Hulk's Abomination.
Now, another wave of promotion for Shang-Chi has arrived.
SHANG-CHI CAST HIGHLIGHTED IN NEW POSTERS
Marvel Studios officially released six new character posters for Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, showcasing the main cast members of the upcoming Phase 4 film.
Simu Liu's titular hero takes the spotlight in this newly-released poster.
A detailed look at Simu Liu's red superhero costume is showcased in this latest poster, giving off a more comic-accurate vibe.
Awkwafina's Katy appears to be ready for action in this official image.
Trailers and promo spots for Shang-Chi only showed Awkwafina's Katy as a close ally of Liu's MCU character without any hint that the actress would be involved in action scenes. However, this poster essentially confirms that Katy will help Shang-Chi in his battle against the Ten Rings organization, as she wields a sword in the image.
Tony Leung's Mandarin prepares for battle in this official promotional image.
Tony Leung's Mandarin can be seen wielding the powerful Ten Rings in his own character poster, thus cementing the idea that he will be a formidable foe against Shang-Chi throughout the film. It is expected that the origins of the Ten Rings will be explored in the movie, and it will be interesting to find out how Mandarin rose to power while using this magical artifact.
Meng'er Zhang's Xialing is ready to defend herself from the threat of the Ten Rings organization.
The first trailer showed Meng'er Zhang's Xialing going up against her brother, Shang-Chi, in the aforementioned martial arts tournament, but it seems that she will become an ally of the hero to finally take down the Mandarin and the Ten Rings.
Michelle Yeoh's Jiang Nan looks to defend a mystical city in Shang-Chi while also reminding the titular hero of whom he really is.
Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh's Jiang Nan has been described to be a character who guards a mystical city, and this could hint that this is the location of the mysterious dragon that was teased in one of the movie's trailers.
Yeoh's character also wears red attire similar to the color palette of Shang-Chi's superhero suit. There's a chance that Jiang Nan will likely be the one who will give Shang-Chi his costume before the eventual battle against the Ten Rings.
The dangerous Death Dealer looks to settle the score with Shang-Chi in the film.
The identity of the Death Dealer is still unknown, but this poster establishes the idea that this villain is a dangerous enemy that will spell trouble for Shang-Chi and his allies.
SHANG-CHI'S ASIAN CAST
These new Shang-Chi posters follow the trend of previous promotional efforts of MCU films. The same has been done not just for theatrical films but also for Disney+ shows like WandaVision and Loki.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives exclusively in theaters on September 3, 2021.
