It was touch and go with fans about whether Rachel McAdams would return as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness since early reports indicated she would be a no-show for the sequel. However, it was soon confirmed that she would return as the sorcerer's former love interest but in a more active role.
McAdams' Palmer in the sequel certainly intrigued fans since she was spotted inside the Illuminati facility holding Strange and America Chavez prisoner. It even appeared that she was working for the multiversal cabal. The first trailer for Multiverse of Madness also showed McAdams standing next to Strange and Chavez looking into a multiversal abyss.
However, a new TV spot showing the same scene doesn't bode well for Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer or, at least, a Variant of her.
Rachel McAdams' Disappearing Act in New Trailer
A new promotional trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was recently released online, but some fans have noticed one curious change. Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer, spotted standing next to Doctor Strange and America Chavez in the first trailer, has disappeared.
Using the same stills from the first trailer and most recent TV spot, McAdams has been completely removed from the scene, but what does it mean?
Outlook Not Good for Dr. Palmer
It wouldn't be the first time Marvel Studios is tricking audiences with trailers or changing its mind about a plot point during post-production. But the removal of Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer doesn't seem like a healthy sign for the character.
After watching all the film footage released thus far, it is easy to see the flow of events. After the Illuminati imprison doctor Strange and America Chavez, Wanda attacks the facility. During the attack, both of them escape, alongside Palmer, running from Wanda through a basement as they reach the vault door seen in the first trailer.
But, now, Palmer has been removed from the group shot, putting the status of her character in even more danger. Did she survive Wanda's attack on the Illuminati? It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, since her being a Variant wouldn't preclude McAdams from returning for more sequels.
Fans will have to find out her fate when they see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6.
