Eternals will introduce a brand new group of powerful superheroes that has been staying on Earth for thousands of years, and one of them is Angelina Jolie's Thena

Jolie is set to make her MCU debut in the Chloé Zhao-directed film, and the veteran actress has been a key figure in Eternals' marketing due to her star power.

Jolie has been front and center on a few of the posters for the movie, while most of the trailers feature the powers of the actress' cosmic hero as well as her intriguing dynamic with the rest of the Eternals.

Despite being one of the main highlights in Eternals' marketing, exact details about Thena's role in the narrative are still being kept under wraps. What is known so far is the fact that Thena is one of the team's best warriors, and she's living with Don Lee's Gilgamesh in the present-day storyline of the movie.

Given that Eternals is set within the larger MCU, fans have wondered how their power set would fare against powerful heroes like Captain Marvel.

Now, this question has been answered by a Marvel producer.

Thena vs. Captain Marvel?

During an Eternals set visit covered by Comicbook.com, Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore opened up about the possibility of seeing Angelina Jolie's Thena go up against Brie Larson's Captain Marvel sometime down the line.

In terms of fighting ability, Moore described Thena as a version of Captain America who is powered by cosmic weapons, but admitted that it is going to be tough facing against Captain Marvel if she goes "binary" should the two female heroes duke it out:

"I mean, when Captain Marvel goes binary, that is tough. But it will be as if Captain America, who I would argue is probably the best physical fighter, was powered by cosmic weapons. She's going to be a problem, but again, Captain Marvel going binary, that's tough."

For context, Captain Marvel's binary form allows her to harness the power of her cosmic energy to greatly augment her physical attributes, such as her strength and durability. Meanwhile, Jolie shared that Thena has the power to "manifest weapons in [her] hands" ability in the film.

Many would agree that it would be a visual treat if Marvel Studios decided to form a storyline where Captain Marvel and Thena decide to fight one another at some point in the future.

Thena's physical attributes combined with her ability to manifest cosmic weapons out of thin air could be a useful asset against Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. However, it's worth pointing out that her binary form will be a problem, especially considering the fact that Thanos needed the Power Stone to punch Danvers in her powerful state during Avengers: Endgame

It is unknown if Thena's weapons can affect Danvers in her binary form, but this could be possible due to the fact that her powers come from the Celestials themselves. Aside from Captain Marvel's main power, Thena can also go toe-to-toe with Danvers since she has super strength.

Danvers is also no stranger to cosmic heavyweights, mainly because she has been protecting the cosmos for quite a while now. This means that she can potentially outwit Thena in a fight by adopting a series of strategies.

It's also worth mentioning that Captain Marvel can also absorb cosmic energy, meaning that she could take in Thena's weapons if attacked.

In the pages of Marvel Comics, Thena was brainwashed by the Deviants to go up against Ikaris. The same could happen in a future MCU project, but she could instead be pitted against Captain Marvel to know the answer to the aforementioned question.

Still, there's a strong chance that Thena and Captain Marvel would team up instead of fighting each other, and it's safe to say that enemies are doomed when it eventually happens.

Eternals is set to premiere in theaters on November 5, 2021.
