Following a few adventures with old friends, the galaxy far, far away will return to the MandoVerse with The Mandalorian Season 3. If all has gone according to plan, the latest chapter in Din and Grogu's journey should be nearly finished with filming, leaving the bulk of the post-production work in ILM's hands from this point forward. Season 3 is expected to pick up directly after the events of The Book of Boba Fett, with the fandom's favorite tag-team now reunited.

There have been a significant amount of plot points shared in recent weeks, ranging from an armor upgrade for Grogu to more details on a massive Mandalorian battle that will see many familiar helmets joining the fray. A few images even leaked from the set, revealing new red Mandalorian helmets for what are said to be Imperial loyalists, along with word that Praetorian Guards and potentially Snoke will be involved in the season.

Pedro Pascal recently teased that there would be a number of known entities returning for the Season 3, but that some new faces would be appearing as well. Many of the familiar characters can easily be guessed - Katee Sackhoff returning to play Bo-Katan Kryze hasn't exactly been a well-kept secret, and it appears one of her Mandalorian allies mysteriously absent from the Season 2 finale will be back as well.

But there's always room for more when it comes to Star Wars. The Mandalorian has introduced dozens of new characters to the franchise that have made significant marks in various ways, many of whom having been played by iconic actors. Season 3 will be no exception, as a long time ago is set to meet the future.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that actor Christopher Lloyd has joined the cast of The Mandalorian Season 3. Lloyd, best known for his role as Doctor Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future films, is said to be playing a special guest role, though details are scarce.

Another '80s Icon Joins Mando

The Mandalorian has made a habit out of bringing stars from classic '80s films into the series through guest roles.

Most notably, Carl Weathers has portrayed Greef Karga in the first two installments of the show, and he's expected to return for Season 3. Weathers was given the opportunity to direct "Chapter 12," and it's already been confirmed that he'll be getting into the chair once again for the next wave of adventures. The actor played Apollo Creed in the classic Rocky films, and he greeted fans at Star Wars Celebration with his character's iconic "I want you!" line in 2019.

In Season 2, The Terminator and Aliens star Michael Biehn made a cameo as the gun-for-hire Lang. Unfortunately, he won't be making a return, as Mando blasted him at the end of "Chapter 13." And though he only did the voice work, veteran actor Nick Nolte played the Ugnaught Kuiil in several episodes of Season 1, coining a few phrases that fans latched onto immediately.

Christopher Lloyd is next in line to join this group. Without knowing the full details of Season 3's plot, it's tough to guess what kind of character he'll be playing in his limited role. While it would be amusing to see Lloyd suit up as a Mandalorian elder, much more likely is the actor will be taking on an informative role for Mando as he traverses the galaxy. Or perhaps he'll be playing another mad scientist, this time one who knows a thing or two about cloning...

The Mandalorian Season 3 debuts on Disney+ in late 2022.
