Loki: How Mobius & Renslayer's Relationship Got Hurt By the Pandemic

Warning - This article contains spoilers for the season finale of Loki.

Tom Hiddleston's Loki has come to an end on Disney+, but fans can rejoice that the story is confirmed to continue in a second season

The finale not only wrapped up this season, but it introduced Kang the Conquerer and possibly set up Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, and even a potential Avengers 5.

Jonathan Majors' Kang made his debut, and the Marvel Cinematic multiverse was born by the end of the Disney+ series.

Along with setting up the future of the MCU, Loki kept the TVA intact with B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) and Mobius (Owen Wilson) on a new mission. Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) exited her office via TemPad, and her whereabouts are unknown.

In season 2, more insight into Renslayer and Mobius may be afoot after some character development was seemingly left on the cutting room floor in season 1.

During a recent #LokiMidnightTheater, Loki writer Eric Martin revealed that he wishes they "had more time with Mobius and Renslayer." Martin wrote that "covid got in the way." The filming of Loki took an eight-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic from March to September 2020.

Martin's full Tweet can be read below:

"I really wish we'd had more time with Mobius and Renslayer. I wanted to explore her more deeply and really see their relationship. But covid got in the way and we just didn't have time. #LokiMidnightTheater"

MOBIUS AND RENSLAYER BACKSTORY

In the season finale, Renslayer said to Mobius, "Eons of friendship. And you threw it all away on a couple of Lokis."

While it was made clear that these two TVA members had a working history, a friendship of that magnitude wasn't clear from the beginning. In many ways, the series went away from the idea of the TVA, turned into a love story between two Lokis, and then took a sharp turn into setting up the multiverse in the MCU.

For all the ideas that Loki introduced, getting to know Mobius and Renslayer better wasn't at the top of the list. However, it was unsettling to see the Sacred Timeline version of Renslayer as a regular high school principal in the finale.

A second season without an unplanned hiatus could lend itself well to focusing more on the characters set up in season 1. At this point, no one even knows where Renslayer went or what she is after. She told Mobius she was leaving "in search of free will," and maybe because earlier she mentioned only the person in charge gets free will, she is looking for Kang.

However the second season plays it, it's be a safe bet that audiences will get a deeper look at the characters in the TVA and learn more about their past.

All six episodes of Loki are streaming now on Disney+.
