Black Widow may have met her end in Avengers: Endgame, but that wasn't the end of the line for the character. In almost one week, fans will finally bear witness to Natasha Romanoff's solo film Black Widow, which is said to be well worth the wait.
Taking place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Black Widow will fill a gap in the hero's story and expand on her mysterious origins. Trailers for the film already have hinted at pivotal moments like the Red Room, Budapest, and Natasha's childhood, not to mention plenty of references to the Avengers.
Despite multiple delays, Black Widow is now so close to release that you can almost see the red in her ledger. Red that fans will learn a lot more about according to Kevin Feige.
LOKI'S TAUNTS COME FULL CIRCLE IN BLACK WIDOW
The cast and crew of Black Widow took to red carpets around the world for the long-awaited premiere of the film this past week. Speaking to On The Red Carpet at one of these events, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted at some Easter eggs fans will see in Black Widow.
Feige said that when it comes to a character like Natasha Romanoff "almost everything is an Easter egg:"
"When you have a character like Natasha Romanoff, who has been in the MCU for over ten years, almost everything is an Easter egg. Almost every line, every story point, has been referenced before."
The Marvel exec pointed to Black Widow and Loki's interrogation in The Avengers as a pivotal conversation that will be expanded on. Feige said that a lot of the things Loki references in this scene "we learn and see first-hand in this movie":
"Particularly, there's a scene in Avengers, where Loki is behind glass on the heli-carrier and he's taunting Natasha with things. A lot of things that he taunts her with are things from her past that we didn't know about, that we learn and see first-hand in this movie."
THE RED ON BLACK WIDOW'S LEDGER EXPLAINED
So many events from Natasha Romanoff's backstory remain unexplained in the MCU, so it's a relief to hear that Black Widow will clear all that up once and for all.
In the scene from The Avengers that Feige is referring to, Natasha tells Loki she has red in her ledger that she wants to wipe out. Loki then taunts her by saying "can you wipe out that much red? Dreykov's daughter, São Paulo, the hospital fire... Your ledger is dripping."
While it's known that Dreykov will appear in Black Widow, played by actor Ray Winstone, the events of São Paulo and the hospital fire are still mysteries waiting to be solved. They also appear to be events that are only referenced within the MCU, so fans can't go digging in Marvel Comics to find out more about them.
Whatever these events entail they clearly have a traumatic impact on Natasha's life, which should make for some interesting drama when they're finally revealed in Black Widow on July 9.
