Out of all the troubles the DC Extended Universe both in front of the camera and behind it, almost no single project has seen more hiccups than Ezra Miller’s Flash movie. Originally meant to release in theaters in 2018, multiple directorial changes and production delays have put this film into a constant state of uncertainty.

Miller has already made two cameo appearances in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad before playing a key role in 2017’s Justice League. Lately, the cast for his own solo outing has gone through some interesting changes, most notably bringing back Kiersey Clemons as Iris West even though she left the project a few years ago.

In that same vein, today brings news of another actor departing this story while another comes aboard.

VERDU IN, CRUDRUP OUT OF THE FLASH

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Maribel Verdu has signed on with Warner Bros. to play the role of Barry Allen's mother, Nora, in 2022's The Flash movie.

Additionally, Billy Crudup, who played Henry Allen in 2017's Justice League, has exited his role for The Flash due to scheduling conflicts with Crudup's other commitments like The Morning Show. It's unclear whether the role will be recast for the upcoming solo movie.

MORE CHANGES TO THIS IN-FLUX DCEU FLICK

In yet another edition of "What is happening with The Flash?", this movie's cast appears to be going through some substantial adjustments before filming even begins.

Billy Crudup played Henry Allen in a limited role in 2017's Justice League, and it seems likely that he will return in some fashion in Zack Snyder's Justice League when it debuts on HBO Max next week. It's still unknown if he will be replaced by another actor in The Flash, but chances are high considering how important Barry Allen's parents are in his story.

As for Verdu, it will be interesting to find out how the DCEU tells Nora Allen's story considering this will be her first appearance in the franchise. After more than 35 years working on mostly Spanish-language movies, this appears to be her first dip into the American Hollywood scene.

The story and cast for The Flash has been a seemingly never-ending cycle of different names over the last few years. With a multiversal aspect added to the film thanks to Michael Keaton's addition as 1989 Batman, it will likely be a mystery what the specifics turn out to be until production actually begins.

The Flash will begin shooting in late April 2021 before its theatrical release on November 4, 2022.
