It’s been a long time since fans have properly seen the Guardians of the Galaxy together as a team. The beginning of Avengers: Infinity War was the last time the entire group was whole; not counting their scene in the closing minutes of Endgame, as Gamora was sadly left out. So when will audiences see the galactic misfits together again?
It’s already confirmed that the squad will show up for this year’s Thor: Love and Thunder, but the size of their role is unconfirmed— and will likely still be missing Zoe Saldana’s Gamora. For those who want another proper adventure with everyone’s favorite band of cosmic misfits, look no further than next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The movie is set to unite the gang for another film entirely focused on them, including their timeline-displaced battle-weary warrior. But what will the movie be about in terms of plot?
Not much is known officially, but rumors point to Chukwudi Iwuij playing the villain of the piece: The High Evolutionary. On top of that tease, the script has made several cast members cry.
Now, thanks to a post looking for extras for the upcoming project, fans now know some new details about at least one scene in particular.
A Fun Bar Scene for Guardians 3
A new posting on Tammy Smith Casting spoiled a new "fun" bar scene for the upcoming Marvel Studios’ film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The post noted that they need older men of any ethnicity between the ages of 35 and 60 years old for a “FUN Club/Bar scene with a mixed group of LGBTQ+” individuals.
The post was for extra work in Atlanta, where the production is currently taking place. Extras who are cast would begin filming the scene on Thursday, March 17; those working have to be fully vaccinated in order to be booked.
The Guardians Have a Fun Time Out
The last time fans saw the Guardians at a bar was for their emotional bouts on Knowhere, right before Drax mucked it all up. So, are viewers going to get more heartfelt reveals almost a decade later?
Who's to know? Hopefully, it’s a fun scene showing off camaraderie between teammates. Lots of times in these big superhero films, the story doesn’t afford the heroes time just to let loose and hang out. Moments like lifting Thor’s hammer in Avengers: Age of Ultron or The Suicide Squad (James Gunn’s most recent movie) just having fun and dancing stand out in that regard.
Even better than that is the representation this could bring to the table. It's great for audiences to get to experience that environment within a culture often ignored in mainstream media. It's also an area Disney could continue to improve on.
Now, there’s always a chance this posting isn’t actually for The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but instead for The Holiday Special. Both are filming within the same time frame with the same crew, which makes it difficult to tell when one or the other is on the other side of the camera.
The Guardians' Holiday Special is set to hit Disney+ by the end of this year, and Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
