James Gunn has had quite the comeback as of late; while he was once fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the director has since been hired back. Not only that, but Gunn has now done two high-profile projects with Warner Bros.: The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. As great as his venture in the DC Comics world, fans are dying to see his return to Marvel Studios. While Vol. 3 was initially set to release in 2020, now audiences have to wait until May 5, 2023, to see everyone's favorite band of galactic misfits.

Not much is known about what their next adventure will bring, but at the very least, viewers will see the return of Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, Dave Bautista's Drax, Vin Diesel's Groot, Karen Gillan, and Zoe Saldana's Gamora. It will follow the gang after the events of Infinity War and Endgame, which saw the loss of the original Gamora, who fans have followed since 2014.

New to the cast is Chukwudi Iwuji, an actor who worked with James Gunn on Peacemaker. His role is unknown, but rumors have suggested that he's playing the film's villain: The High Evolutionary.

Now Iwuji has had the chance to speak out about what he thinks regarding all the internet speculation.

In an interview with The Movie DweebPeacemaker and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 actor Chukwudi Iwuji was asked about his role in James Gunn's next Marvel Studios outing.

According to the actor, he's "[seen] those recently," and that just being "the subject of speculation on the internet is kinda fun:"

"I saw those recently... I saw the Silver Surfer, I saw Nova... I just can't, for me to wrap my head around the fact that I am the subject of speculation on the internet is kinda fun. It's kinda fun... but I have to stay mum. I can't tell you. I'd love to."

The two joked about how Marvel snipers would get them if the actor confirmed anything, with Iwuji saying that "the video feed would just cut out right now."

The interviewer played a fun game where he listed the rumored characters that Iwuji would be playing in front of the actor to see how he reacted. As one would guess, he was able to keep straight through all three names.

The Guardians Rumors Persist

As strong as the rumors are, the chances of Chukwudi Iwuji playing The High Evolutionary are high. The actor would make for a great villain, and his mannerisms fit with the part. No matter what role he has though, given his talent, Iwuji will knock it out of the park.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won't be the next time fans see the galactic group. They are set to play a part in Thor's next outingLove and Thunder. It's rumored that their appearances are brief, and their role in the proceedings small, but even a little more of their banter with the God of Thunder is better than nothing.

As for their proper threequel film, the team is going to have their hands fulls. On top of this rumored High Evolutionary, they'll have to content with Will Poulter's Adam Warlock (and likely his darker side, Magus), and the Sovereign—a group that may end up being the MCU's version of The Universal Church of Truth.

Sadly fans have quite a while to go until more information about the film is released. Thankfully there's plenty of Marvel Studios content to focus on in the meantime.

Vol. 3 will be released in theaters worldwide on May 5, 2023.
