Warner Bros. will be adding four new movies into the DC Extended Universe in 2022, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s long-awaited Black Adam solo movie. While it’s unclear if this movie will connect directly into the Shazam! franchise yet, the classic anti-hero is set to come into play with a bang behind arguably the biggest movie star in the business today.
Filming started just a few weeks ago on this expansive film, although plot details are still mostly unknown outside of a few impressive set pieces. Even with this news, one of the biggest pieces of this movie that fans are waiting for is to see exactly how impressive Johnson looks when he's fully suited up as Black Adam.
While that hasn't come yet, Johnson did give fans the smallest of teases on social media.
THE ROCK TEASES BLACK ADAM
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took to Instagram to share an image of himself in a hooded robe from the set of Black Adam.
Johnson is standing under the light in a full robe, which covers everything but the boots of his Black Adam costume.
The boots can be seen in a better light in the second image, which also teases an intense look on Johnson's face.
Johnson's post included the following caption:
"If you know the comic book mythology, then you know where his pain comes from.
His wife and children killed.
His people brutally enslaved.
He is not a superhero, but rather a champion.Of the poor and beaten down.Of the people. And he is the most unstoppable force in the DC UNIVERSE.
* wanted to give you guys a little Black Adam update and share this image with you from set. Production is coming along GREAT and I’m very pleased with the movie we’re making. Black Adam’s mythology, ethics and actions no doubt will create a new paradigm in the world of superheroes, villains & antiheroes.
The power will shift.
The line will blur.
From a slave to a God.~ the man in black️"
Black Adam has donned a cloaked attire in more recent comic storylines, specifically in DC's New 52 era.
TEASING A COMIC LOOK?
While this cloak could largely be in play just to hide the majority of Johnson's costume for now, DC's New 52 look from the comics could very well be an option for Warner Bros. as well.
This comic line was introduced in 2011, bringing a semi-reboot of nearly every major player within the comics at the time. Black Adam was included in that mix, and this change brought the menacing hood and cloak as a new part of his wardrobe.
The cloak could be included in Johnson's character look to potentially tie in with his classic nemesis Shazam, who sports a white cloak as part of his costume in 2018's Shazam! with Zachary Levi in the leading role.
No matter the reasoning behind the look in the image, The Rock certainly knows how to tease his highly-anticipated projects. While it's highly unlikely fans will see any footage from the film soon with the release still more than a year away, it seems clear that these kinds of teases can be expected from its star on a semi-regular basis.
Black Adam will release in theaters on July 29, 2022.
