When HBO Max first launched, its lineup of DC movies and shows were a tad disappointing. The routine monthly changes to the lineup certainly didn't help the service's cause.
Slowly but surely, Warner Media has been gaining ground in improving the DC content on HBO Max, moving all their original DC related content from the now-defunct DC Universe to HBO Max.
Regarding the constant removal of DC movies, an HBO representative quickly said that these movies would quickly be replaced with new ones and that the ones removed would return eventually. So, Batman fans should be especially pleased to see what has been added to HBO Max.
NEWS
HBO Max has announced all their releases for January 2021, including a plethora of live-action and animated movies starring Batman, along with Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.
Additionally, three Superman movies and Justice League Dark: Apokolips War were included on the list of movies and shows releasing right on January 1st:
— Batman Begins
— Batman Beyond
— Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker
— Batman: Bad Blood
— Batman: Death in the Family
— Batman: Hush
— Batman: The Animated Series
— The Dark Knight
— The Dark Knight Rises
— Justice League Dark: Apokolips War
— Superman: Doomsday
— Superman: Man of Tomorrow
— Superman Returns
WHAT THIS MEANS
While this is exciting for DC fans with access to HBO Max, one shouldn't expect all of these titles to stick around indefinitely due to the nature of streaming licenses. While the exact details of each of the licensing deals are unknown, it's likely that they stretch to at least 2023, or possibly further. This means that fans can comfortably enjoy the entire Nolan trilogy of Batman movies, plenty of Batman's old and newest animated movies, and most excitedly, Batman: The Animated Series, for at least two years.
Superman is also present, albeit far less prominently, in this January 2021 lineup, with two animated movies and Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. The only odd movie out is the ultra-violent animated movie Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, which features Batman and Superman in lesser capacities.
Regardless, hopefully, Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond will stay on the service long enough for many fans to watch both to completion.
