Arrowverse's John Diggle Just Received His Own CW Superhero Show

Everyone knows the Arrowverse. Even if it’s not on the watch list, the name rings a bell. Their shows have been airing on the CW since 2012 with Arrow, starring Stephen Amell as the famous Green Arrow. It has since gone on to spur six additional shows throughout the years.

One of the more popular of the bunch has been The Flash. Grant Gustin stars as the titular speedster, having saved the day for seven seasons now.

However, recently, things have been on a downward spiral. Their original show, Arrow, ended in 2020, with Melissa Benoist's Supergirl following suit late last year. Batwoman went through some messy turmoil, and many believe that The Flash’s days may be numbered.

CW is holding its ground, though, with a new show, Naomi, having just recently aired. The broadcaster also has a Gotham Knights show in development, as well as Wonder Girl. Word has now dropped about another series: Justice U, starring none other than David Ramsey’s John Diggle.

As reported by Variety, The CW has announced another show which will be added to The Arrowverse: Justice U.

The new series, which is now in development, will see the return of John Diggle, played David Ramsey, as he “embarks on a new mission to recruit five young metahumans:”

“After spending years fighting alongside masked heroes, Diggle (Ramsey) embarks on a new mission to recruit five young metahumans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow. The show is based on characters from the DC pantheon.”

Ramsey is also attached to direct the potential pilot of the series, and his character is still set to make reoccurring appearances throughout the other Arrrowverse shows.

Superman and Lois’ executive producer Michael Narducci is set to write Justice U alongside Zoanne Clark, who was an executive producer on Grey’s Anatomy.

Additional executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, and David Madden of Bertlanti Productions.

More Diggle On The Way

David Ramsey’s John Diggle has had quite the heavy focus after the finale of Arrow. He’s since gone on to guest on shows like The Flash, Superman & Louis, and Supergirl—so it’s not all that surprising that CW would want to give him his own show.

After all, the character has had a Green Lantern storyline heavily teased recently, with his appearance in Supergirl having the biggest nods yet. With a show devoted entirely to him, one would have to hope that this story of his, which has now been dragged on for years, will finally go somewhere.

The real question is, who will he be recruiting? They’ll probably feed off their current and previous roster, so it’s a safe bet to expect a speedster of some sort and a member of the bat family—no matter how extended.

Maybe fans will see somebody from the Legends of Tomorrow crossover? They could also introduce young heroes such as the human/Kryptonian hybrid Kon-El or the Atlantean Lagoon Boy.

It’s important to point out that this show is not a guarantee just yet. CW will have to approve the pilot first before ordering it to series; they previously canned a potential show centered around Mia Queen’s Green Arrow in the future.
